Suspension mods on 997 (non GT3)

I wonder if there are any 997owners who have modded their suspension to - for example - Bilstein Damptronic (PASM compatible), because they track their 997 ?

I would like to hear some experiences on that matter...

Or is it just overkill on a "normal" 997 and should they buy a GT3 ?

I plan on doing more trackdays but don't want to change car, I own a 2006 997S with PCCB, short shifter, sport chrono, ...

What would you like to improve about the current PASM setup (is there something you don't like) or are you just wondering if there's a faster setup (there is, but most are expensive and compromise the car for street use)?

Damptronic is probably a bit better than stock PASM, but a mild improvement, I would guess.

You need to describe what you feel is wrong on the track, remember than although there are some general changes, no 2 people are alike, and that translates into their driving style.
As for lower, if it is for the looks then that is a different requirement.

The easiest is to take it to a specialist like Parr of JZ Mahtech who will tweak your settings (tyres / suspensions) within various possibilities / budgets.

Don't forget the tyres also make a massive difference so Michelins PSC are the way to go.

I just feel that the steering is lacking some precision, it's as if you're not getting the full info from the tyres... It's very obvious in normal mode (for instance high speed turns) but also a bit in sport mode.

At least, that's how I think about it, compared to my former 996 4S and my current B7 RS4.

Lowering would just be a consequence of it, not a goal ;-)

Then change the camber + toe in, that should get you going. I also changed over braided brake lines. All this is reasonably cheap as well!

It sounds to me you're more the GT3 kind of guy, you'll just have to live with the PSMlessness

Short of getting a GT3 (which I wouldn't at this point because of RMS problem, and that it's not a true daily driver), there are a few things you could do to improve chassis/road feedback, steering feel, and improve turn-in response. They are simple and relatively

cheap:
1. More negative front camber.
2. Bilstein with stiffer springs.
3. After market sway bars and Tarett drop links.

Have a look at the thread in my signature line http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=449462&an=0&page=0#449462. It's a long thread but it should answer a number of your questions.
You will find that with stiffer springs and after market sways, among other things (car feels less ponderous, etc.), the steering will be tighter. For example, when you rock the steering wheel back and forth, there is less free play/lag in response. In curves, the steering will give more feedback, "fight" back a little more and instead of just yield.

The mods are NOT for everyone, but it might just be the perfect solution for you.

Try to get a ride in a 997S with the factory sport suspension. ( non PASM )
It is a very sharp set-up , stiffer but not as stiff as a GT3 but with an agressive wheel alignment and 20mm lower as well. A PASM Carrera feels like a boring family car compared to this set-up. I assume you can retro fit this suspension.
Contact your dealer first.

That suspension is carefully tuned to work with the factory LSD. Not sure if this can be installed in your transaxle or whether it makes sense to swap transaxles entirely. Either way, it's expensive...

Yes. Camber, Caster and Toe are all adjusted when you have an alignment performed (don't try this at home
