Thanks for thr responses guys. Tony2006, I do also have an R8. It is quite interesting to compare the two actually. Firstly, when I drove the LP560, for me it lacked the drama and excitement of the old Gallardo. It seemed to lack that edge and roughness of what most supercars provide. This did disappoint me. However the more I drive the LP560, the more I fall in love with it. The car is sublime in everything it does, the power is endless in this car and the plus side you can use it everyday without no problems.
Now going back to your question, in a way the new Gallardo and R8 do feel related. The main thing that struck me was the handling. The old Gallardo felt very go-kart like, whilst the LP560 gives a lot more confidence when going round corners, it's a lot more smoother, comfortable and refined. Similar to the R8.
Where the car's differ is the power. A bit obvious maybe, but the LP560 is blisteringly quick. In standard mode, the car is very comfortable and quick without being frantic. Switch the car to sport mode, and the car begins to show it's teeth and all of sudden becomes the bull of old. Then you pres the corsa mode and the car is let off the leash and the results are mental. The gear change is unbelievably quick and it's no joke the passenger is in danger of suffering whiplash! So in terms of performance there is no comparison. The visual drama the LP560 provides is scintillating too, it just looks magnificent from all angles and I think could be the most beautiful car out there, especially from the back.
The R8 is a stunning car and ticks all the boxes, but the LP560 is very special. However this comes with about a Pounds80k price increase, and for me I would have the R8 at almost half the price. What interests me now is Audi's R8 V10, I think it maybe very similar to the LP-560.
I don't know what the list price will be for the car, but they may steal a few potential LP560 buyers.

I was at the Lambo factory back in August. Out the back they had the old and new Gallardos parked side by side - the difference is amazing, and the tour guide told me they deliberately made the back of the LP560 lower than the old G. Can't wait to see what the new Spyder looks like too!
