    Spyder Idol, this just in from speedvisions Marshal Pruett, he said that he has credible sources from Porsche that they will be back with Penske next year! Rodger Penske has asked the ALMS to reserve car numbers 7 and 6 for the 2009 season. All we need to know now is what they will race and class? I still feel that Porsche will shock everyone and announce a LMP1 program for the 2009 season with penske! So according to spped tv's Marshal Pruett, he basically said they will be back for 2009 with cars 7 and 6 already reserved numbers for 2009. What do you think about a possible LMP1 now?

    That is great news!
    I still think that it will most probably be in LMP2.

    @996cal I have just read the article at Speedtv and what Pruett says that despite Porsche possibly having a change of heart and keeping their Penske/Porsche program going in '09, much like the financial bailout plan, this has fallen through.
    This means no Penske Porsche for 2009.

    Spideridol any new news on Porsche plans? So when will they announce their motorspor plans its already October? I just hope they do the same thing as they did at the end of 07' make late announcement that they will be back with Penske.

    It doesn't look promising - Almost certain no Penske Porsche for 09. A real shame really.

    Maybe the RS Spyder is at the end of its cycle and Porsche will not develop it further to keep it on top of LMP2.
    (Perhaps they are working on a LMP1 car?)

    Therefore, top teams like Penske are not interested if they cannot win. So perhaps next year Spyders will be sold to lower teams or concentrate on the Euro LMS where competition is easier.

    This has to do with the rule change fro 2009 (as well as the future 2011 rules).
    The P2 cars will be further restricted for 2009 (along with the P1's) and they will stand absolutely no chance of overall win. Also - the ACO does not want factory backed entries in P2.
    Given the above, Penske would stand no chance of winning anything (except class wins), and that is something that they are not interested in.
    I feel relatively confident (well maybe that a bit too strong ) that we will see a Porsche P1 , but not before the end of 2010.

    Latest: Apparently Dyson will run two Lola Mazda coupe's in 2009 (so no Spyders) and Penske has two Rileys on order (Grand Am)

    I suspect Porsche want to phase the Spyders out in 2009. They may concentrate more on the GT class.
    2010 or 2011 could be the beginning of P1 perhaps?
