    Better than the concept CAMARO

    http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro/

Better looking than the concept. True to its history. IMO it will be the best looking american production sports car and hold its' own against others in the non-exotice category.

Amazing power to at 422 HP/ 408 TQ.

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

    It looks really good,
one thing I would change, are those ugly shining rims

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

I agree. This is one cool looking car. It's engineered locally (as in Melbourne, AUSTRALIA) despite it being an American car.

Haha that's exactly what it is!

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

    Any interior pictures?
    Is that the HEMI\SRT\whatever version?
    What about pricing?

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

I can't believe after 40 years of automotive advancement, the best we Americans can come up with is a 1960's era retro redux war.

Ford Mustang vs Dodge Challenger and Charger vs Chevy Camaro.

Meanwhile the Japanese and Europeans keep pushing it forward.

    Its actually a little depressing.

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

    I like it. I hope it's successful.

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

Thanks God, at least one new car which has a breathtaking design.

Car looks mean and strong - love it!

This is RS the top of the line will be SS. The price will be below Corvette, my assumption is high 20s to low 30s for the entry model.

Hemi/srt is chrysler corp., this is chevrolet/GM corp.

Price base v6 in the 20's, my guess for SS version high 30's and amazing value compared to the market.

    Here are some real world interior shots, same as the website and a very well done layout;

I can't disagree more, at least with camaro.

One of the very rare times that a final production actually improves upon a hot concept, compare to porsche!

It will have a 6.2 liter V8 revving to 6600 RPM and a 6 speed auto or manual tranny at a very reasonable in today's world price. It will also handle and stop well. Unlike the cartoonish challenger this camaro ROCKS!

Just 10 years late in regards to gasoline.

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

SS pshop, this car in SS paint scheme will look awesome

can someone make that a jpg?

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

Check it out on the road, it is very wide and low and cool looking. Add to that the fact that it sounds awesome and chevy has a winner if gas stays under$3, lol.

I totally agree with both of you! A little bit too late IMO. It will sell but it will look too quickly an old car in terms of design and engineering. Pity that some americans still don't see that the times are changing quickly.

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

Does anyone know if this car has independent rear suspension or is it a live axle like the Mustang?

EDIT: According to the link in the first post, it has adjustable camber in the front and rear suspensions, so I guess it must be IRS

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

I hope it does well, because it looks wicked! definitely holds the retro name proudly.. unlike mustang haha.

They will bring a V6 for fuel reasons!

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

I really like this design a lot!
    Absolutely drop dead gorgeous.
Heist, I believe I understand what you mean about the whole retro wave being a bit like saying "hey, we cant come up with anyhing new and exciting, so let's reuse old designs". Like it was the case with the Thunderbird, to name the only example I can think of that really was close to being a 100% retro ripoff.
However, this is not the case with the new Camaro, nor with the new Corvette, the Challenger or the Mustang.
They may have their roots in the past - but they all are very much sportscars of our time both in terms of looks, performance and handling.
How the new Camaro will handle remains to be seen, but its rivals have definately left their past behind in that sense.

I think the Americans have found a way of designing sportscars that look truly American, while at the same time performing much closer to (and in some cases thoroughly beating) their European counterparts.

I absolutely welcome this new line of cars.
It's refreshing, bold and it embraces a theme from the past that I think we really lack in our day and age: The fascination with and celebration of The Muscle Cars and Street Machines.
It doesnt have the refinement of a Ferrari or the built quality of a Porsche. These cars are not built for girlimen wearing Italian moccasins or businessmen commuting on a packed freeway! Hell no! This is the revival of Smokey and the Bandit!

...and yes, I know Burt Reynolds drove a Black Golden Eagle Trans Am in that picture....but you get the picture

Ford GT was a pretty close ripoff of the GT40 too...

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind cars modern cars that take design cues and elements from the muscle cars of the past ....

But when you just go and rip-off the whole design, and they keep doing it over and over...

You begin to wonder what they hell? Are we running dry on ideas here guys?

Re: Better than the concept CAMARO

Heist, you are right, and Grant has a point re the Ford GT40/50.
To some extent designs are being copied from their own back catalogue.
But they are far from alone. Most successful car manufacturers have either a recognizable main design they follow strictly or design cues that they incorporate in all of their designs.
Take Porsche for instance: They have had a more steady development in their designs, but they even to this day base their product design on a concept developed back in the forties and fifties.
The US manufacturers went astray back in the seventies and eighties, making designs that often was a far cry from their successful 1960ies concept.
Mustang comes to mind as an example of how poorly you can build on a great concept.
Now many of these companies have gone back to their "original recipe" if you will. You can call this lack of imagination or creativity, but I believe it is more a matter of recognizing, that the original idea was so good, that it's worth going back to.
So it seems they have suddenly decided to start copying their old designs, when in reality the designs would possibly have looked like this had they kept building on the original idea, instead of going off in all directions.
Porsche still builds on an old design, but they have made it their trademark to keep a subtle evolution rolling.

So I believe the US makers have returned to their roots, and I believe that's a great thing for both the business and carlovers alike.

Only trouble now is that the Camaro, Challenger and Mustang look a lot alike in their new interpretations - but then again a Charger, Challenger, Cuda, Duster etc didnt look that different back then.

And what a beautiful ripoff it is! One of the most beautiful cars in history if you ask me.

I agree. If the new Ferrari California looked like a late 50's to early 60's 250 Calif. Spider, it would be much better too imo.

I like the BMW Z8 too which is a modern interpretation of the 507
