    Discount on 997 Mk2

My local dealer offered me 6% off MSRP on an ordered '09 C2S coupe (build date 1st week Oct for Nov delivery). For those who have placed orders, how does this deal compare? This would be my first Porsche and I'm debating buying the 997.2 vs. waiting the painful 3 years for the 998/991.

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

Over here discounts are very hard to get. It ranges from 0 % ( in the UK) to about 5 %, when you are lucky !

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

    no discounts in the UK

The best you can hope for here in the UK is a "generous" part exchange offer, but even that seems to have gone tits-up reading various posts here.

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

just do it, you wont do any better...waiting wouldnt be an option for me as now you are dealing with a known quantity...who knows what the " marketing / design " team may dream up in a couple of years.

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

Sorry, but I don't believe you.

The new model, with less deliveries planned for the US and they offer you a discount?

I believe him. The economy is very slow. I've heard reports of people buying new 08's for $13k off...

My Canadian friend just brought a brand new 08 Nissan 350Z with sport package, leather and 6speed for under $20K!! Took it across the border and could sell for $35K easy right now...

The US market is dead! I believe him, especially for sports cars.. and Trucks! You can get a brand new F150 there for like $20K! ABSURD!

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

It sounds like a great deal to me. I was quoted 4.5% off an ordered 997.2.

Out of curiosity, which dealer? Scottsdale or Tucson? No trade, right. Thanks!

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

He's also probably dealing with the same dealer I bought from in Arizona, Porsche North Scottsdale. I bought my '08 C2S for almost 8% of the $91K MSRP. I then received notice they were slashing even more on the 2008 models. No word on any 2009 discounts but here in the Valley, with the mortgage brokers/realtors losing their jobs and an unprecedented drop in home values and rise in foreclosures, the market for $100K cars is slooow.

Good dealership by the way...very knowledgeable.

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

No discount on new UK models but Pounds6K off demo cars. Cambridge & East London especially keen to deal. Hatfield has excess stock. Porsche registered a total of 119 cars in the UK in August. (against 282 in 2007) Many were speculative 997.2. I understand Hatfield sold 2 cars in August.

I'm getting 3% off MSRP on an Oct build Targa in Washington.

I got offered Pounds39k for my May 06 C2S today from the OPC I bought it from against a GT3 lol. To$$ers...

I know, I made that illustration as an example of the weak economy. There is virtually no car that cannot be purchased new with a significant discount these days in the US (Ferrari being one).

    OUCH!!!!

Good time for me to upgrade from a Boxster to a nice used C2S then. Shame I'm committed to an expensive home extension and have an expensive daughter whose looking to me to fund education in the States from next January.

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

I will keep mine after the offer my OPC gave. They value my car at best as the same as the cheapest equivalent car they find anywhere including Autotrader. As part of a large group (its policy apparently) the sales guy has his hands tied. He even suggested I'd get more either a) at an independent OPC or b) through the trade or private sale.

Suddenly X51 at GBP 9.5 k fitted looks more attractive.

    So much for loyalty!!

I think the resale values are higher in Japan! I paid GBP 55K for 997 C2 (May 2005 Registered) and am being offered GBP 35K for it now - actually in December 2008 when the 2009 C2S I have on order arrives.... I also have a few other cars I am considering at the moment so am still on the fence.

Porsche residuals have gone down the tube since they have started building as many cars as they physically can! Even my 2003 996 was worth more when I sold - despite being a lesser car! I feel like buying secondhand now just to annoy my OPC who I hace had the pleasure of loosing lots of money on over 3 cars since 2002!

They must be making lots of money because my sales guy yesterday showed me his new Patek - cost him GBP 45,000 - yes - GBP 45,000!!!

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

Bigger trouble is your Boxster will be worth rock all as well :-(

I've been advised that my 05 C2S warranty renewal will be Pounds1200 (over $2000) Since the car has dropped Pounds15K in a year I'm really struggling to justify the cost to myself. RMS must be the biggest issue - I'm told it's 6.5 hours labour at Pounds115/hour - Pounds750. So it seems I'm better off putting Pounds1200 away each year & hoping for the best. (it's only done 20K miles).

Can't help thinking P-VAG have shot themselves in the foot with this in the UK......

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

It is definitely keep them and drive them time in the UK - with less cars coming in the market will pick up in a year or so and as people start spending again used sports cars will be popular.

I do say this every-time but this one is a keeper - at least 100K miles!

Anyway it is only money and you are a long time dead - I get so much pleasure from driving a Porsche that I really can't put a price on it!!

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

Its a bit like Vegas - you gamble for the night, eat well, drink for free, meet great people and have a laugh - OK you loose $250 in chips but worth every penny!!

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

Agree mex99! Drive time not sell time

Interestingly I have to be Las Vegas next month! Oh well you cant take it with you can you

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

Sounds like an excellent deal to me here in So California. Just do it!

    About 7% possible in Germany.

Sounds like you're buying the typical dealer line about limited availability. I heard that same crap from Sunset Porsche in Beaverton, OR so I checked with dealers in Washington, California, and Florida. I got no less than $3K off an $85K build from each dealer and a couple even went to $5K - and this was a month ago. I didn't buy the 997.2 and the dealers are all calling/emailing me to see if I still want to buy. Anyone buying in the US for MSRP is wasting money. I'd say target at least $5k off a base 997.2 and more depending on the options.

    Re: Discount on 997 Mk2

What are you waiting for? If they are telling you the truth,
that delership has poor judgement. They will have NO cars
to sell at all when they need them. Every allocation is precious, especcially PDK.Good luck to them; there are very
    few cars........
