    E65 and CLK65?!!?

    http://germancarfans.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=10425

    Rumour or true?

I can't see anyone buying these cars, I mean the idea is great, but their under developed chassis' combined with the fact that its just going to be an E or a CLK at the end of the day, would someone really spend so much money on a CLK65, when an S65 is more luxurious? Performance aside.

    Re: E65 and CLK65?!!?

If they make it 4WD, to solve the traction issues, DAMN.

    Re: E65 and CLK65?!!?

the E65 is the rebuttal to the M5.

and people would take the CLK65 over the S65 because the CLK is a coupe whereas the S is not.

    different purpose cars.

mercedes is ALL about niche marketing.

    And then you have CL65
(and maybe CLS65, in the near future)

    Re: E65 and CLK65?!!?

I think this is mostly hype.

Such a massive engine combined with additional driveline and strengthening of subframes will make for a near 2 ton CLK, and I'm not sure the C-class derived platform could cope. Whats worse is because of that heavy engine, the rear would cause lift at high speeds and general imbalance, and a small bootlid spoiler isn't going to do the job. Such a car would be dangerous at speed and in corners. The handling will be ludicrous.

I think rather than make the 65 versions, AMG is making performance packages, similar to the SL55 one for all its models. WIth stuff like speed limiter raised, bigger rims, and brakes, front bodykit and additional oil cooler and the like.

Just speculation at this point, I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

    the engines are getting rediculous

i mean come on, can these chassis really handle that much power...

    in a f*kin limo!!! hehehehh

mercedes needs to make something mid engine hehehehh

I don't think that it will have aerodynamic lift at higher speeds because of the engine. At low speed the front-/rear-weightdistribution will affect traction, at higher speeds it is entirely a matter of aerodynamics. You might be right that the huge amount of torque could be too much if there is just little weight on the rear axle.

I am not sure about the article but I have heard from various sources that Mercedes wants to skip the Kompressor-engines in favour for a 6.3-litre natural asp. V8 engine!
