    Auto Rental

Have a question for those of you that live in Europe. I am coming to Europe on business and I would like to rent a sports car while I am there. Of course I would love it to be a 997. CAn any of you please tell what are the good rental companies? Thank you.

    Re: Auto Rental

Noe of the main company's rent Porsches. Every country will have its own local premium/sports car specialists at very high prices too!

    Re: Auto Rental

    Hey Arun,

may I ask where you come from, in which city you're landing and how old you - roughly - are?

    Just some insights for Germany:

Unfortunately there are not a lot of Porsches able to be rented by now. Several companies used to have it but I am not sure if they still do - e.g. Europcar, Sixt, Hertz or Avis. The later are the only ones which officially offer a Porsche 996 Carrera on their website!
    http://www.avis.de/avisonline/de/avis.ns...52002D5411&

Besides that there are smaller ones like

    http://www.turtlerent.de/autovermietung_index.html

I can't tell you anything about their reputation though!

It is always good to have an international drivers license, especially if you are from a country with different letters (Arabic countries, Asia etc.)!
Also you have to be able to be between 25 and 30 years old to rent these cars!

    Any more questions?

    Greetings!

Does that mean if you are older than 30 you cannot rent them?

    Re: Auto Rental

Thank you to everyone for their answers. I am between 35 and 45. I am going to London for a week or so and then to Germany for the same amount of time. I do know that only certain cities rent these cars. So, if I know which ones then I would be able to land there instead.

Avis and some other smaller rental companies in Germany have Porsche cars for renting. When I checked recently, Avis had only the 996 available. I don't think any car rental will get a 997 soon.
You also need at least two major credit cards to rent a Porsche over here, best combo is Amex and Mastercard. Some companies do not accept a Visa - Mastercard combo, on of the two cards has to be Amex, some are asking for gold cards and some are even asking for an Amex Platinum or Centurion card but mostly for Ferrari cars.

A lot of Porsche dealers in Germany are renting 911s but usually not the 997 right now. Cost is around 240 or 250 Euro per day plus extra cost for each km (200 km are included as far as I remember).
Avis rents out 911s starting from 199 Euro per day depending on the date, etc.

To make it short: I don't think you can rent a 997 right now, maybe in a few months or next year.

    Re: Auto Rental

RC thank you for the info. I have both the cards you mentioned in Platinum status. Do any Porsche dealers rent cars or is it certain ones? Thank you again.

You might want to check out the large dealers in Germany, especially in big cities like Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Berlin or Hamburg.
Another possibility would be to contact Porsche in Zuffenhausen directly to make a rental request.
If you're a Porsche customer in your country and your local Porsche dealer can provide some sort of credentials, there might be a possibility to get a rental car from Porsche, even a 997. But again, I can't tell you for sure, the 997 is pretty seldom right now. Since I own my 997 Carrera S, I didn't meet one single 997 on the street. Dealers still have their showcars they don't sell yet (they need them for testrides and for showing them to customers) and customer cars will be delivered starting with early september.

    Re: Auto Rental

RC, Thank you. I am a current Porsche owner. I also have a 997 on order. So the 997 is basically being released to customers about the same time as here in the USA.
On a side not how do you find you 997? What options did you get? Did you order it or buy out of the dealer inventory? Do you have pictures of your car? Thank you again.

Ahem, I guess I was thinking faster than typing...

For premium cars you usually have to be at least 25 to 30 years old, depending on the requested vehicle!
So I'd guess Arun shouldn't have a problem on that issue.

If you prefer the 997 you should go RC's way - or contact a dealer and ask for a testdrive. If you're lucky you might get it for a couple of hours, since you won't buy it there it depends on goodwill!

If you don't care about a particular model I would suggest you to rent a premium car from a major car rental agency (e.g. 7-series, A8, S-class and the likes) since the requirements are much less. You usually have an unlimited amount of KMs that you can drive during your rent. Additionally you get several models with diesel engines which is considerably cheaper in Europe - if you care about that issue. Besides that these models are usually equipped quite well nowadays, even ventilated seats, TV etc can be in there if you're lucky!

No order and no dealer inventory, just some luck.
I wasn't able to order one because I took a pretty fast decision and I wasn't able to get one from dealer inventory because there was none, only showcars (dealers need them to attract customers and they can't sell them either over here until late autumn or so).
I got a 997 Carrera S with 20 mm chassis/LSD, full leather, adaptive sport seats, PCCB, the typical setup Porsche built for a few showcars and test cars. I'm not sure this setup will find many buyers, most people seem to prefer a "cheaper" 997 Carrera S, especially because of the PCCB.
Pictures? Just take a look at the 997 Carrera S testcar I drove.

    Re: Auto Rental

RC sounds like you were lucky considering how difficult it is to get one in Europe. I will look at the other link. How is the 20mm suspension? Any comments or advice as I am in the process of ordering my 997S? What are your thoughts on the PCCB? I have read in several magazines Porsche has an issue with them not lasting. How are you finding them on the street? Have you driven your 997 on the track with those brakes? Thank you for all your help.

RC, after seeing the US equivalent of your car at several US dealers, I would have to say Porsche really had three cars they introduced, the standard 997, the standard 997S, and the very special 997S with its PCCB brakes, adaptive seats, full leather, chrono, BOSE sound, and nav. The special is an awesome car.
