Placed my order, Thanks for the help guys

Well, the old thread got deleted about my Dillema between the PASM and the -20mm suspension but I decided to go for the -20 mm suspension with LSD at the end since its not going to be my daily driver - I wanted maximum sportiness , thanks for your input guys The car will be an october production due to the PSE and Terrecota leather options. The final list looks like this:

    997S Black Basalt Metallic.
    Full Terrecota Leather.
    Bose Sound System.
    Door sills in Stainless Steel.
    Thicker Steering Wheel.
    Park Assist.
    Porsche Sports Exahust.
Phone Module for PCM (without passenger handset).
    Cd Changer.
    Sport Seats.
Porsche Crest embossed in Head Restraint.
    Porsche Full color Wheel caps.
    Sport Chrono Plus package.

-20 mm suspension with LSD (STD no cost option)
    Cruise Control (STD)
    Home Link (STD)
Rain Sensor with Auto dimming Mirrors (STD)
    Sun Roof (STD)

The dealer says the car should arrive end of January - can't wait They asked for an outrageous down payment though! I've bought 3 cars from them before (VW) and got them down to less than $10K deposit. Originally they wanted 25% of the total price of the car ($90,000) which came to $22,500 deposit and I refused because I need my money doing better things during the wait

    Big deposit is a joke.

2 or 3% max. Did it on my Porsche and BMW. both ordered cars. paid cash.

Your dealer isn't treating you right.

Especially since, if you decide not to buy it when it arrives, they could sell it in fifteen seconds because of the demand.

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

Congrats on the order It'll be a beautiful car. Now that you've almost ordered every option How about short shifter or sport shifter?

I guess it all depends on the options you order. I know in Houston it used to be refundable $1,000 deposit for any order but after so many people backed out and the dealers were left with so many cars with options not too many asked for they decided to change the policy.

To give you an example, several years ago they had a Cobalt blue 911 with Boxster red interior that they couldn't get rid of, just because the original guy that ordered it wanted it that way and of course he back out.

I know since about a year ago they started asking non-refundable $5,000 deposit.

Write your own conditions on the sales order. If you get a divorce, death in immediate family, injury, laid off, fired, quit job, terrorist attack, market crash, that they refund your deposit. no kidding. You should be able to do this. The "good faith" means everybody is happy and nobody screws anybody, you play on the gentlemanly tradition of Porsche.

Something like that. $5000 is too much to be forced to walk away from in this case where they can EASILY sell your car.

Not a big joke because muhri is not from the US.
I suppose the dealer doesn't want to get stuck with the 20 mm chassis, this is why they asked so much.
Trust me, many many 997 customers won't go for the 20 mm option.

In Germany, things are even "worse": there is no such thing as a deposit, you have to sign an order and you have to buy the car when it arrives. If you don't buy it, you have to pay 20% (as far as I remember) of the order value as some sort of "punishment fee".

Classic example of what happens in a monopoly--two Houston dealers under common ownership. Don't know about Roger Beasley in Austin, but you can order from either of the two Dallas dealerships (Boardwalk or Park Place) and not have to pony up a $5K nonrefundable deposit. That's just plain crazy and greedy.

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

You're right. That's why we need a third dealer in Houston with a different owner.

For those of you who don't know, as Paul mentioned both P-dealers in Houston are owned by the same owner (Sonics Automotive Inc.)

Muhri, you sure about the parking assist?

If you do alot of parellel parking maybe a good idea. (?)

The bullet holes in the back bumper are the tradeoff.

    just a thought... .

    Oh, I didn't realize... .

I hope writning in divorce, layoff, personal tragedy, clauses isn't unheard of too.

I apologize to automatically asssume everything is US-related. The all-powerful newsmedia and advertizing media in the USA sure distort and make it hard to keep in mind there are outher countries in the world!

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

    Hi Guys,

I thought about getting the short shifter but some people said that shifting effort is increased and the gears are not very smooth as you literally have to almost slam the lever to put it into gear, I like my shifting smooth... They did not have any 911 to try even (996's) with short shifters so I could try it so I decided to do without it for now - Might go for one later as they could be fitted afterwards.

Yes, RC is right - I am from Saudi Arabia and car dealers here put their own rules. When one orders the car, you must put this hefty deposit down .. if the car was standing at the dealer lot, then a $1000 - $ 2000 deposit is good enough to hold it for ya.

I bought a Mercedes and they only took 1% of the total value of the car when I placed my order so different attitudes from a dealer to another.. For my other cars from the same dealer (they are the VW, Audi and Porsche dealers) they did not even require deposit. Just a word of mouth was enough.. Now the wait will kill me !!!

Re: Placed my order, Thanks for the help guys

I agree the deposit request is a joke. To compare, my dealer in the DC area required $1000 US (for my heavily optioned 996TT in 2001) and was very casual about it. On the other hand, at one LA dealership at that time, the going deposit was $75,000. Lesson? Shop around...

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

I've purchased several Porsches, and in California you typically pay $1,000 when you reserve your place in line, another $4,000 ($5,000 total) when you order the car (specify options and the order is accepted by PCNA). By California law, all car deposits are fully refundable.

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

Yeah guys, would love if my dealer would understand but once again - I'm not in the states !!

We highly recommend posting the location (at least the region) where people live, so we and other Users can reply to posts accordingly.
It is also very interesting to see that we're an international community and I have to confess: I just LOVE it. So many people from different countries and cultures discussing their passion, SPORT CARS. I wish we could all meet one day and have a great party with all our cars on a race track somewhere. Sorry...just got carried away...I go to bed now.

In the US they call that a "restocking fee".

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

Done RC, your imagination is nice - I am german born actually and visit germany quite a lot, will let you know the next time I am in.

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

I paid $2,500CAD for my place in line, and since many of the options I want can not be ordered right now, and would be available in October, they will charge my credit card another $2,500CAD then. The rest I pay when I pick up the car.

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

    997C2S
    Ouch!!

Re: Big deposit is a joke.

Well the $5000 CAD price doesn't seem too bad, considering our money is not as valuable as USD.
