    TOP 10 REASONS NOT TO BUY A 997 !

    I'll start...

    10 - Doors don't make a loud enough CLUNK when closing
    9 - The 996 was the last REAL Porsche !!
    8 - Round lights make it look like a 993
    7 - Too many cool electronic gadgets for a "REAL" sports car
    6 - Door handles pull up - destroys any interest I had
    5 - S Model is a rip off with ONLY 355 HP
    4 - DRIVER AIDS DRIVER AIDS !!!
    3 - I can get a vette cheaper with more HP
    2 - Ugly Steering wheel


    AND #1

    DRUM ROLL PLEASE !!!!




    1 - NO SPARE TIRE !!!!!!

    Mine should be here in Jan !!!

    OMG, they had to peel me off the black/black C2S that was being detailed at my local $tealer. Can't decide between black and AS, and, for $8K, do I really need ceramic brake discs???

    Funny.
    Having just played with the 997S today, I have to change my stance and admit the factory S wheels look good in person and the bizarre steering wheel is just fine in person. Porsche is on a winner -- this thing will sell like crazy. It's so much quieter on the road (in terms of suppressing 'bad' noises like white noise from turbulence and wind, tyre roar and so on, but it feels so much more connected and precise ... like ... well, like a 993 ... : )

    By the way, it has a DVD player for the Nav system. A tech guru will surely find a way to route DVD to the Nav display, which is remarkably easy to use ... BMW needs to send its design team to Audi school ... :|

    On the downside, the doors "clunk" with all the joy of a Subaru. Groan. The side bolsters of the "adaptive" seats work, but the leg/thigh/whatever bolsters have little if any effect and the memory system takes about a day to finish changing between settings... :?

    The PCCBs are, as ever, super light and look cool. They stop like crazy, but again, as ever, probably won't survive one day at a track, so I'll put mine in a box and use steel rotors and appropriate pads until someone figures out how to make ceramic brakes work outside racing applications.

    And, as every true Porschephile knows in their heart, the '73 RS L stands as the last true Porsche and the 993 Turbo as the last 911 production variant worth the while of the enthusiast ... : )

    All that said, I defy any purist, no matter the depth of their dogma, to step out of a hard-running drive in a 997S and declare it unworthy.
