Though invited I did not attend. Based on comments from others it was literally impossible to take covert photo's. They had a guard standing on each side of the 575 convertible.
It has a clear top that retracts on top of the trunk and not into the truck. Because of the curvature to accomodate sitting on top of the trunk when the top is up one person described the car looking like a Viper.
The top has 5 settings to darken it. While parked the top automatically goes completely dark for security reasons. Finally, it is rumored the car will have close to 575 hp and only 500 will be built.

575 Berlinetta w/flip top, electrochromatic glass roof that sits on trunk lid when open; concept shown; F still working out issues like dealing w/dust/debris build-up on glass, etc. Very cool design.
575B loses rear shelf and rear windows. 540hp (though I suspect 575B prob gains 100-150 lbs of structural bracing). GTC Handling package available w/19" wheels, ceramic brakes, tighter chassis, faster F1 transmission shifts and improved exhaust note. About $325K. Production in '05 depending upon demand from F buyers....prob volumes similar to CS and Enzo for US mkt.....in fact, may be a US-only model.

Doubt it. Such a glass flip top for 430 would block view into glass-encased engine when top opened. Current softtop setup seems ideal for glass engine display of a mid-engined car...

Oh, now I see what you meant....sorry, was just envisioning 575B type roof.....yes, that would be a cool design for 430 Spider
....but I wonder if additional weight vs current soft-top design would be acceptable trade-off?

How about the benefit of more rigidity of a hardtop? Sorry, I'm not an expert of car dynamics..
But the hardtop will lure even more buyers for the spider...hmm, i wonder if the spider could look as good as the coupe with the hardtop up?

Not sure most Spider buyers really plan to drive car much w/top up (given mileage on many Spiders not sure some are ever really driven)...they tend to have multiple toys for inclement weather duty...

Besides the truth in VKSF's comments I'd like to add that Ferraris are less about comfort and convenience.
You could have the Maser Spider for that demand and if I remember correctly the upcoming model will have a retractable hardtop - funny enough the conventional Coupe will also be offered!
Great info on the 575 Berlinetta - souns like a great car. I am just looking forward to that car and doubt that it will be US-only production.
