I am still interested in the 911. After attending 3 of the porsche driving school courses. I really wanted a GT3, but have been turned off with process of trying to get despite being on a “wait list” since 991.1 first came out. I am pretty much resigned to the fact I am probably not going to get an allocation on top of these cars optioned out are easily getting to $150k for the 911s/gts and the way GT3s are marked close to 200k. And not to mention PTS option is 12k in the US, the whole process is becoming a turn off.
So I am now waiting for my Audi R8 rws ordered a month ago. I am even more confident of this choice after reading RC’s review that I saw after putting my deposit down.

bluelines:This strict corporate design makes the 992, Macan and Cayenne near identical... and boring
...that had to be expected with VW pulling the strings BTW Autobild claims to know that the 992 will be 10 cm wider than the 991 (if true this would be a lot - maybe even the biggest "jump" in 911 history ?). I am wondering whether this has something to do with the upcoming VW corporate platform strategy (Porsche/AUDI/Lamborghini) ? If memory serves me right someone posted before that with the 992 there won't be any difference in the car's width regardless of 2wd or 4wd ? The wide and bulky rear also may help to stuff hybrid components there ?

I think this only refers to the wide fender flares, so that even a Carrera has the flare of a Carrera 4, GT3 RS, Turbo, etc (not sure which of these is closest). I think the rest of the chassis is basically same dimension of a 991 (unless there has been a move to the platform shared across VW brands (usually major platform change only happens every 14 years and we are only at 7 with 991).

From the spy shots and videos we´ve seen (we can tell if it´s a S or not by the Single or Double Exhaust Tip but not if it´s a 2 or a 4 model). I dont think there will be any differences in the "wide department" between the Carrera 2/2S/4/4S. The Turbo is different story. That ass looks huge.

Gnil:The car is getting way too big 991.1 is already too big .
+1
Air-cooled 911's were the correct size for me...

The 991 was stretched a little too far and even the 997 was pushing the limit of size. Porsche is going to run out the clock on the 911 until flagging sales force its retirement. The 928 "heir apparent" experience remains in the corporate consciousness and 911 profits remain strong, so the clock appears to be running for at least the 992 series debut..

Fair comparison but also consider this : https://www.youtube.com/embed/pwGgRUkrnng
Only 20 years between the two. Now imagine 55 years.

Here's 55 years. Sorry 991.1 not quite parallel but you get the idea

I think the 997 had the "perfect size" or better "proportion"! When i saw the 991 some 7 years ago in the press photos i liked the car but tought that their size was a little bit odd!!!
I tought it was too long and too "thin" but after seeing it "In Loco" my Opinion changed completely (after all a Porsche looks a million times better Live than in photos).
By the way, oficial photos of the 991 landed in the 21th of August of 2011, Frankurt Auto Show started in 13th of September. That´s why i´m a poiting a 9th - 15th of September timeline to the official 992 photos since Paris 2018 starts in the 4th of October.
Would´t be suprised either with a official spy video testing in South Africa!!!!

Anyway....
Judging by the Spy Photos & Videos (wider), i think the 992 will have those nice "size or proportion" (whatever you want to call it" like in the 997.
By the way, the 997 is a freaking great Car. I have no doubt the 997 will be considered the "993" of the Water Cooled Engines in a few years if not already.
Best Regards.
