    Changing an Order - How long before it's locked?

    At what point in the order process does it become impossible to change an order? I was forced to order my 2nd choice of wheels because my first choice was coming up as "Not a valid option" on the dealer's Porsche order system. Today, I see via the German configurator that my wheels should be available in October, the same month my car is scheduled to be built. Before I approach my dealer with this new information, I'd like to have an idea what he "should" be able to do.

    I think you will get your 2nd choice of wheels. If the system won't take an order for the wheels you want I think you are out of luck. Your only option would be to wait until the system accepts your order with the wheels you want. Thinking you might be able to change the order at some point is risky.

    This happened to me in '99 when I tried to order the 18" turbo look wheels for my 911. They were in short supply so the system would not confirm the order with them on the order. I had to buy the wheels I wanted after the car arrived and had them put on. A real expensive way of getting the wheels you want.

    My dealer told me that my October build (November delivery) order should lock down sometime around the first of September. But no promises...

    I am in the same boat when it comes to getting the PSE sport exhaust. I am thinking of asking him to delay my order if it does not become available in the system over the next couple of weeks.

    This is my first order so I have no way of being sure.

    I wanted PSE as well, but wasn't willing to wait for a November build, so I've resigned myself to trying the stock system for a while until the part becomes available. If I decide that I want PSE, the dealer agreed to do the swap for $3000.
    As for the wheels, I think my second choice of wheels (Sport Designs) will be just fine, but if I'm not happy with the look or get tired of cleaning all the spokes, I'll try to sell them here or on eBay. However, I still have hope that the factory will make the Carrera Sports a selectable option before I'm locked out.

    Your dealer can let you know what state the car is in, the site also tells you what state the car is changable until.

    The site is old but still valid.

    Good information, but it doesn't match up exactly to my experience so far. That is, my order was immediately given a status of ACPORD as soon as it was entered. My dealer forgot one option and was able to go back in and modify right away with no issue. He also told me that we would still have 3-4 more weeks to change anything else if necessary. He did mention that there was no way of telling exactly when the order would no longer be changeable, but typically it was sometime about a month before the build date.

    ACPROD now means that the configuration is acceptable and does not contain any redundancies / incompatabilities.

    However, PLPROD is generally the cutoff.

    Yeah. The article mentioned something about the dealer not being able to change the order after the status in their system went to ACPROD, but it sounds like that might be an older system or something. Thanks.

    Given that my dealers car was ACPROD the whole time and my ordering was merely a task of configuring his assigned production slot to my specifications... (which is what another dealer indicated was their process as well)... I think that is right. MFGCNF is still changeable.

    Slightly different experience since I did a euro delivery but I waffled on my wheel choice and opted for Carrera Classics about 3 weeks before my build date and had no issues. Got the adjusted proforma w/in 12 hours. Just make sure it's what you want!

    depends on what you are changing

    Well, I would say, wheels can be changed almost up to and including delivery out the door, whereas body color, or interior color, cannot be changed starting some time before the assembly even begins.. so it can depend on what you are changing.
