    A bilstein question

    I've been thinking about doing the Bilstein suspension mod to my 997tt. But since we have so bumpy and harsh roads (even on highways) in Istanbul, I've got some doubts about doing it.

    Would you suggest me to go for it even with those disadvantages? I'm not going to drop it even if I do the mod. Is there anyone with the same situation and did the bilstein? I'd appreciate some feedbacks..

    thanks in advance

    Re: A bilstein question

    If you are happy with how the stock Turbo drives & feels -- do nothing. How the car should feel is a matter of personal preference.

    If you are not, and your question implies so, then the answer is clear to me. For me, Porsche has set up the Turbo to be a 2 legged raging bull so it doesn't damage the China in the shop . You are wasting the car potential if you don't give it the stiffer suspension it deserves because of the bumps on the street. So yes there is no perfect solution, but my opinion is that it's a sports car, give it the appropriate suspension and use it where it could flex its muscles, and get a Lexus type car for the really bad bumps. I should note that Los Angeles level bumps are perfectly tolerable to me, and I drive the Bilstein car daily.

    Nothing will come free -- the ride will become firmer and bumpier, but one, it's not nearly as bad as the imperfect & gimmicky PASM Firm, two, IMO at least you will now have a car that could seriously compete with the GT2 if not at the track then at least with respect to fun factor on the street, and three, the process is totally reversible.

    I've read numerous posts on this subject and don't recall ever reading about a 996 TT or 997 TT Bilstein owner reversing to stock. That should be a good clue. Hope this helps and good luck.

    Re: A bilstein question

    Damptronics are not considerably stiffer than stock. Spring is stiffer but shocks are probably softer in soft mode and stiffer in sport mode. Go for it, you ll not regret it.
    You would regret it if you wanted a 90-100% track oriented suspensio, because it is not. This is better compromise for a 500hp car (if owner drives the car like it was meant to be driven)!

    cannga, thanks for the comments.

    One last question, does the 1" drop affects riding quality too much?

    Re: A bilstein question

    You are welcome. Even though I am crazy in love with my baby, I am not one who makes hasty & unreasonable recommendation (at least that's what I fantasize ); you'll love it. Rarely there is a mod that is just so one sided positive as the Bilstein.

    Please check this other thread's for the reply re. ride height http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=449462&an=0&page=0#449462;
