Acceleration difference between 997S and 996TT?

Can someone who has driven both 997S and 996TT tell me the difference in acceleration between the two: (A) noticeable, (B) Big, (C) WOW night and day

    Thank you
    Andy

Re: Acceleration difference between 997S and 996TT?

i had the 996 turbo for 4 years.i have the 997 S since 20 days.I would say that the diference is noticiblle in my advise. But for a more precice and better comment lets turn this question to RC

Re: Acceleration difference between 997S and 996TT?

I have not driven the 997S yet (nor the 997) Also, my TT has X50, i.e. is not standard.

However, I have met two 997S on the Autobahn to date. One was cruising at 260km/h or so, not trying to race... The other let me pass and then tried to keep up

I can only provide input on the relative acceleration above 240km/h. In that range of speed, the 996TT X50 is much, much quicker. But that is probably no surprise?

Re: Acceleration difference between 997S and 996TT

I've been driving my Turbo for about 3.5 years and 179'000 km. Just got a 997S for a 2 hours test-drive today.

I really enjoyed the responsiveness of the normally aspirated engine, of course especially in Sport mode. But after that kick, the acceleration feels rather... huh... flat.

Yes, the Turbo has some lag. But the acceleration that follows that lag just can't be compared to the 997S' accel. It just keeps pushing and pushing... and pushing...

On your scale, I'd say it's between B and C, closer to C.

    Greetings,

Re: Acceleration difference between 997S and 996TT?

I don't think you can compare a turbochagred engine with a natural aspirated engine.

IMO i think the 996TT would be faster..

What i want to compare is the 996TT with 997 TT?

    Only the difference in accelaration..

I guess you have to wait a bit more!

I haven't driven the TT but as commented before the S starts to develop thrust beyond 5000 RPM. It feels as a very dynamic n/a engine and you will never have the feeling of a turbocharger in the back. It sure is a lot of fun but don't even consider a comparison to the TT. For relaxed driving being aware of the abundance of power the Turbo is much better!

    Greetings!

Re: Acceleration difference between 997S and 996TT?

Of course the 996 Turbo is faster, especially in the higher speed range. At speeds above 200 kph, weight doesn't really count anymore, what counts are torque and power figures.
And the 996 Turbo has plenty of it.

The only domain where the 997 Carrera S might be quicker is on little country roads with lots of twists and turns because the 20 mm chassis is just unbelievable and the 996 Turbo still tends to understeer a little bit and the turbo lag is also a point. But it also always depends on the driver.
On the Autobahn however, the 997 Carrera S stands no chance against a 996 Turbo with manual, not to speak about X50.
This was one reason why I went for the 997 Carrera S, I don't use it as a daily driver and I won't drive it too much on the Autobahn. It is more of a fun car for my spare time. I could have bought the GT3 at my dealer for the same purpose but no rear seats, more insurance cost and lacking PSM (right, on the street PSM can come in very handy). Price tag was the same on both cars.

As a daily driver, I would probably choose the Cayenne Turbo but for fun, right now the 997 Carrera S is the closest thing to a GT3 without giving away too much safety and it has the more modern look too.
When the 997 Turbo shows up, I might change my mind and go for the Turbo but right now I'm so happy with my 997 Carrera S, I can't really put it in words. I mean you drive this little baby in a long but sharp curve and you get faster and faster and you wonder when the tires are gonna loose grip and you're waiting for that power slide and nothing happens. Unbelievable stabiliy and the new Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires seem to be stickier than ever.

What can I say: right now I'm in Porsche heaven, a Cayenne Turbo as a daily driver and a 997 Carrera S as a fun car.
If I win the lottery, I get a Carrera GT too.

    I agree.

I think we should all be able to understand someone getting excited about their first Porsche. Or, for that matter, first Ferrari, Lambo, AM, Lotus or Mazda Miata, or whatever.

    Welcome to rennteam, ramrum.

HI FERDIE, THANKS FOR YOUR WARM REPLY.......PLEASANT DREAMS, WILL TALK LATER.........

    Apologies

I certainly did not intend to be rude. Check my previous 250 posts or so to verify that I am neither rude nor arrogant

However, as the number of members to this forum is growing rapidly (good news), the likelihood of a troll joining is, unfortunately, increasing. Just look at other forums - with a certain frequency there are intruders just focused on fooling other members.

The form (large caps) and the content of your first post made me suspicious that you might not be a serious poster. If that is not the case I apologize for my former reply and welcome you to this board

PLEASE turn off your CAPS. Turning on CAPS is considered SHOUTING and this isn't polite!

But otherwise ... welcome to Rennteam.

Do you have photos of your Turbo?

    Three problems:
    1. city traffic (drives me nuts sometimes)
    2. my customers (who would probably never come back if they see a 911 or even Ferrari in front of my business)
    3. city parking lots/garage with dangerous bumps and other obstacles
