Gauss:Doesn't hybrid mean more weight as opposed to turbo?
Who says no turbo?
Yes, weight is an issue, a very serious one.

I did as it alters the characteristics compared with the stratospheric revving normally aspirated engines found in today's GT3 models. Hybrids will add weight but if an EV only mode is eliminated, the size of the battery pack is reduced.

Development is already in the works, early prototypes already driving around as far as I heard.

Not sure of the Motorsport/GT development cycle but not unreasonable to have a two to three road test cycle.

Either approach will dramatically alter the driving characteristics of the next generation; however, a hybrid solution with a normally aspirated engine could retain the high rpm characteristics of the current motor. Very few turbocharged motors have redline above 7,000 RPM, plus as we know, the sound is attenuated with turbocharges.
McLaren has said that their 650 replacement will be a V6 coupled with electric . Probably the best solution , as you say, keep high reving engines and add electric for torque and fuel emissions rules

Gnil:That s what I got from this forum and this week end at Imola during the Porsche Cup when speaking with one of the main racing team .
Never has a very small NA production ever been mentioned. And it does not make much sense if you think about it
--
from the forum, we talked about keeping NA but very small production number or the turbo route and it was in line with the discussion I got few weeks ago.
hybrid was not a discussion for the GT cars but more for the Turbo S and for another e-hybrid 911.
mules are already under testing phase or were supposed to be on the road this month. RC mentioned the same as well so they may be going around as planed.

Turbo is indeed still a possibility , the cheap and easy way .
The e-hybrid would be the more advanced and probably better solution , if they manage the weight issue . Many think this is the chosen solution . The team I talked to is very close to Porsche as they deal directly with them for all the racing cars + they do also sell some GT cars . Informations from them has been accurate in the past . They did not say for sure, but there take was that it will be some kind of an e-hybrid . Mc-Laren is also going this route with the 650 replacement .

If the 992 GT models use either turbocharging, electric assistance, or both: Does anyone know if the Motorsport engine (as found in current GT3/RS) will be used as the basis for the new motor? Or will they continue (like the GT2 RS) to use modified Carrera/Turbo motors?
