997 TT release earlier than thought?

I was talking with one of the more reputable outfits that import Porsches in to the UK from mainland Europe. With all the caveats that entails, and stressing that this is pure hearsay:

The guy was very sure that they would have 997TTs in the UK by the end of 2005. That would normally indicate that an announcement will be made in May 2005 and the first ones will be available in July 2005 in Germany. Let's hope its true!

Sounds reasonable. Seems to me that spread between German release and UK/US release dates has narrowed considerably for 997S vs prior model cycles.....same logic seems to hold for 997TTS release vs 997S release time....beauty of co. being run to maximize profitability....shorter model cycles in a competitive world

2005 as a MY 2006? I doubt it. 2005 is the year of the Boxster and 997 Carrera Cab and Carrera S Cab.
Introducing the new 997 Turbo too would create a lot of logistical problems. Not to forget about the rumored Cayenne facelift in summer 2005 (MY 2006).

Fair points.....so Spring '06 release? Given P is only selling 750 or so 996TTS (in US) vs the ?2500 or so of 996TT annual sales, that's a lot of foregone revenue at $150K per car in lost sales....good thing P is prob just as anxious as prospective buyers to have the 997TTS in the mkt

the Turbo S , if that is what you guys are talkign about, is traditionally released at the final year of production for a model's cycle

ala 993 - 1997 turbo S
ala 996 - 2005 turbo S

it would only then be appropriate to see the turbo S around 2008~9. when all the other obligatory derivatives of the 997 have been released and have seen their limelight.

that said, the base TT release is up in the air, they may release it sooner, but i doubt it would be anytime sooner than 2007 model year.
