    Valve noise from the left bench...

    ...on a mk1 996 I'm having a really loud valve noise of the left cylinder bench.
    After doing an oilchange to the original oil and a cleaning of the engine with some special liquids, the noise has not gone. I was also driving for 20 minutes in the 3rd gear on the highway with a high oilpressure for letting the oil circulate. All these tricks did not help.

    Is it dangerous to drive around like this? Does anyone have experience with and has some advice???

    Driving further than is necessary could potentially be very expensive. It sounds from your description as if it might be something relatively simple like a failure of the hydraulic lash adjustment on one of the valves. A mechanic at your dealer might be able to confirm this immediately on hearing it.

    PS: I've just noticed that in a current separate thread you mention that your car has had a waterpump failure, possibly allowing the engine to overheat. These two situations might be connected?

    thanks for the answer.

    the mechanic said, that the pump was no big deal, the engine never overheated I was carefull always checking the temperature gauge. The pump was half working and the car only leaked water sometimes. a connection between the two things is not possible.
    But after picking the car up at the car dealer I was able to hear this noise. I first thought it was the new pump or a belt or so. The mechnics said that is clearly a valvea on the left side. It seems to be a common problem for the 911 from 993 on.
    Lot of clients let the engines wash (inside) and the oil sneaks after in all small angles and the valves. But in my case it is not helping. They told me in two different porsche dealers, that it is not dangerous and I should go on with driving for a week or two and monitor the problem.

    As it seems I have to bring it again and they have to open the valves for fixing the real problem. Does anyone have or had a similar problem??
