I think we are starting to see a few cracks in the facade of the New Hamilton: http://www.skysports.com/f1/news/12433/10267011/lewis-hamilton-slams-ridiculous-reprimand-from-russian-grand-prix?

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

On the other hand, the powers that be should really be listening to Hamilton (and the other windbags) when he talks about the proposed 2017 rule changes.

I just don't understand how they think adding downforce to the cars is going to be a good thing. It's not like it every has been in the past. If anything, they need to remove downforce, among other changes that aren't being made.

Latest rumors are that Verstappen and Kvyat will switch teams from Spain on.

Max joins Red Bull Racing with immediate effect: “A new challenge”

Published on 05 May 2016 by Stefan Meens

Max Verstappen has been promoted to Red Bull Racing after making the switch from sister team Scuderia Toro Rosso. Max’s first outing in the RB12 will be at the Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya next week.

The 18-year-old Dutchman is delighted with the challenge ahead, telling Verstappen.nl: “The next step in my relatively short career so far, is an amazing opportunity. I really want to thank Red Bull Racing and Dr. Helmut Marko for the confidence they have in me. I’ll have the chance to learn a lot from the top team that is Red Bull Racing. I’m also looking forward to work with an experienced and proven team mate like Daniel Ricciardo.”

“I can’t thank all the people at Scuderia Toro Rosso enough for all their hard work. Everyone back at the factory in Faenza, and Franz Tost in particular, have made an amazing contribution to get me this far in my career. We’ve had an amazing time together.”

“Together with Red Bull Racing we’ll do everything to prepare me as best as possible for my first laps in the RB12 Tag Heuer, next week in Barcelona. I cannot wait for that special moment to happen.”

In the next few days, Max will have a seat fitting at the Red Bull Racing factory in Milton Keynes. There, he will meet his new team members as well as acquaint himself with the RB12 in the simulator. After that, the Dutchman will head to Barcelona for his first Grand Prix as a Red Bull Racing driver.

Awesome!!! Allthough... I hope it's not coming too soon for him... Torro Rosso seemed to be an excellent environment for him to learn. Let's hope Redbull won't have too many reliability issues in the coming time!

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

Great news. It was a huge risk that Max would leave for another top team in the next season. Giving him the Red Bull Cockpit for sure ties him up. Great move Red Bull.

Regarding Kvyat - they should have put him back to the bobby cars - F1 is way to crazy for that guy. Probably he is drinking himself to much red bull wink

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

It turns out that Sochi worked out to RBR's advantage after all. This move was already in the works, and Sochi gave them the excuse to make it now. That being said, in terms of raw talent, Verstappen is the better driver. He might even make Ricciardo nervous.

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

Wow, can't wait to see Mad Max this weekend.

Kvyat was quick too though, just needs to be more cautious..

Seems like Vettel still has some influence over Christian Horner!

Will be the most interesting GP so far.  I think Max will do well, but don't expect too much in his first outing - could take a little while to adjust?

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

    WTF Rosberg?!?!mail

This race was supposed to be 66 laps long, it shouldn't be over for LH in turn 3!

LH was catching NR big time after exiting turn 2 and the german hobbit left him no space "to survive"no

He moved very late to the inside and pushed Lewis wide, Very bad race and sportmanship from Nico!!sad

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

That's the way I see it.

Will be interesting to see if the stewards commit to a position.

Would be great to see a Red Bull 1-2 (Aussie first of course). It has been a while!

And he's exactly right. Hamilton was reckless and stupid, and took himself and his teammate out. I can't really see how anyone can see it any other way.

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

    @apias

NR had the "wrong" engine setting after switching from start to race modus!

The funny part is (was) that due to that wrong setting he blew all his power into the start procedure and the first two corners but after corner 2 he ran out of it and this is why LH was 17km/h faster than him at the moment of the impact...

Look at this pictures, they prove that Nico wasn't palying fair

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

I saw the incident, I've seen the replays over and over, I've read the stories, and it doesn't matter. Rosberg's mistakes didn't cause the accident, Hamilton's recklessness did. He had to know, if he was rational at the moment, that Rosberg was going to close the door on him, he saw that Rosberg was closing the door on him, yet he persisted in his course, and the result, except for the fact that he ended up taking out Rosberg too on his spin, I didn't see that coming until it happened, was entirely predictable.

Frankly, I think what happened is that Hamilton suffered from a bout of temporary insanity.

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

LH could have waited, but if I was him I would have gone for it doing 17km/h faster. NR came way off racing line to shut the door and shutout he did. This makes the rest of the season very juicy indeed.

Congrats to Mad Max. Wouldn't have got first in normal circumstances but he kept his head and showed race craft keeping Kimi away. I think this race got away from Vettel, you could see in the post race interview that he felt 1st should have been his.

+1 Hamilton was very silly there and probably out of frustration this season so far hasn't been for him.

Totally the fault of Lewis. Nico made one move and shut the door. He did not need to give him room to go by. This is a game of giant balls and respect. There is no way that Nico could have allowed himself to lose a game of chicken to Lewis. He had to make a strong move and Lewis should have let him make that one move and gone left or slowed down. To lose 17 kph he only needed to slightly lift. After creating the worlds quickest Mercedes lawnmower however  Nico should have known to move hard left to give the crashing Lewis room to go by in that hard braking zone. That was the only fault of Nicos. Lewis was beat with a spectacular outside pass by Nico. He needed to be much more aware of the danger of trying to make Nico move over for him. At this point Nico will simply not back down when Lewis challenges him.  The mental game has shifted into Nicos favor and this mistake by Lewis makes that clear. He is now Nicos bitch.

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

Even Toto Wolf thinks it was Hamilton's fault,

"Coming out of T3 Lewis had more speed, Nico de-rated. Nico closed up the inside on what looked to be a clean manoeuvre. Lewis chose to go that side and ended up on the grass and lost the car. That was it.

although he won't explicitly say it:

"I would say it was a very unfortunate racing incident triggered by various circumstances.

Congratulations to Versatappen, though. He drove a great race, and got a greatly deserved first win. Kind of makes you think RBR waited way too long to promote him.

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

Yeah yeah yeah yess a yeah!!!!!!!!
Wow what a brilliantly exciting race! Watched it with friends and we were at the edge of oir seats the entire 66 laps! This is what F1 needs!
We had hoped that Max would end on the podium, but this is beyond belief... What a true legend this boy has already become. Admitted, the 2 mercedes playing bowling alley was a stroke of luck, but besides that, Max made only one small mistake, during the last couple of laps.... Wow!!! Still can't believe it!

Mercedes taking each other out on the first lap? devil

In a way, it is sort of what they need, although, maybe a less draconian method of achieving it would be safer.

The weekend has to be a big disappointment to Ferrari, though, despite putting both drivers on the podium. They came to beat Mercedes, which they did, but Verstappen and Red Bull spoiled their fun.

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

Rosberg was on the wrong racing line and border line against the rules. Racing is racing. I think Rosberg is to blame....

How is that conclusion possible? He went to defend the inside line, Lewis was not close to being beside him but kept going that way.. he could have cut the outside way knowing Rosberg is aggressive in his defense... than with the boost he would still have had a great shot on the outside.. instead he kept his foot on the pedal and lost it, whereby taking out Rosberg is actually borderline against the rules too. FIA decided for an unfortunate race incident which I think it was, but cause by Hamilton Smiley

Re: 2016 Spanish F1 Grand Prix in Barcelona

Drivers move across the track to block all the time. They are allowed one "move", and Rosberg made one clean move. If Hamilton were smart, with his extra speed, he would have gone back to the racing line and passed him before or on turn 4. But he didn't, he fully committed himself to the inside in a stupid, reckless way and they both paid the consequences.
