Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Thnx to these guys at teamspeed for making me now have to buy a 997TT w/ aero kit!

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Rear wing looks almost identical to the last generation... rather unimaginative ( here we go again ).

Honestly though, the aerokit won't be ordered by many so understandably they didn't invest too much in developing a new design, but it looks the SAME!

    996:

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

I wouldn't be surprise if these were leftovers.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

not for me, I prefer the standard spoiler

Those aerokits (for the 996 TT as well) spoil the looks of the car IMO. They might make a difference at 200km/h plus, but 99% of the drivers cannot sustain speeds like that for a long time for the usual reasons, for the aerokit to be worthwhile.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Exactly, Jake, not to offend you, but the reason that so few people order the aerokit, is that it totally spoils the looks of the car. So porsche: tackle the problems at their origin:
Not: "We don't sell aerokits, so we're not going to invest in a new one"
But: "We don't sell any aerokits. Why not? Because it's ugly! Well, invest to make it look good and then people will buy it."

People still buy the aerokits for the base 911s (996/997 cup aerokit are quite popular both as factory options and aftermarket retrofit both oem AND aftermarket)

Also aerokits are quite popular amongst poseurs who rebadge their base carreras as GT3s and engage in other poseur activities.

I completely agree with Joost. The Turbo aerokit is not popular because it is not really that special and quite overpriced for what you get, people are more likely to just buy the OEM GT2 body parts.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

    BTW, Jake,
Do you have some pictures of the front with aerokit? Preferably together with one without the kit fitted for comparison.
Do you have any numbers on difference in downforce, 'cause we can sit here all bashing the looks of the aerokit, but in the end, that is a rather subjective thing. It is also about performance.

    Here you go...

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Or here's the rest of the pictures that Jake didn't post.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

thnx for posting it for me atomic

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Awwww Geee, I tell people I don't exactly like the 2x8 (dimensional lumber) stuck to my back deck.

    Now they've stuck a 4x12 back there?

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

The standard spoiler looks much better.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

imo another contrived loser design from the exclusive or whatever dept.

I think the design pretty much guarantees that this will remain exylusive .

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

hehe, Crash, that's a nice eufemism.
It looks like they didn't do much too the front. Can't imagine that this subtle change counteracts the added downforce by the rear wing... Any numbers on downforce etc?

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

I do appreaciate the option of a nicer wing as porsche has always offered it for the 911s. BUT, as mentioned before this new interpretation just looks as if it wasn't really thought through before developing.. it seems aftermarket and not OEM!

They should have spend more attention to it to make it flow better with the design.

Nonetheless, if i see one in the streets i'll be happy cause it's still a little more special then the stock wing..

It's personal and i won't knock whoever has it cause it's not that bad..

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

I'd buy _THIS_ aerokit if it were stock on the new Turbo.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

    ohhhh 959!

    can't resist posting this: WOW!

That's a great looking "aerokit." Lets see something like it again in a 998!

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

The turbo aerokit has always been merely the front splitter/side skirt bottoms being painted. The only thing really different was the rear decklid/wing - which has apparently remained the same for the last 2 generations.

Oh well, I completely understand that it was probably useless to engineer something different given that they only sell 500 or so of these kits for each generation worldwide.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

The new TT aerokit is useless and ugly... I don't even know why Porsche offers it, looks aftermarket. I wish they spend that R&D money on making a better car instead.

The aerokit on the n/a cars looks like the GT3, some it vaguely does have a point, but they should offer a rear seat option on the GT3/2 instead.

As per my above post, there was no R&D lol, they just painted the lower body parts and stuck on the old wing.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

So who complains the TT looks like a kit car now?

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

TT may be a bit complex and not as simple lined as a regular 911, but it still remains the best daily usable supercar in my book.

That said, living in the city I am contemplating a mini cooper s as a runaround.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Get it Tom, I love my Mini Cooper S convertible sidewalk. Refreshing to see a car doesn't need ultra hp to be fun. Lease terms are also great and includes maintenance. No brainer.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Seriously considering it for next winter. How can you have so many convertible cars... this region's weather must "drive" you crazy. Only 2 weeks worth of san diego esque weather. Harsh winter and musky summers.

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

Only 2 out of 5... Just got a another coupe...
The weather drives me crazy, but can't move yet... One day...

Re: Introducing the 997TT factory Aerokit, Again

The standard spoiler is much more attractive and fits the car well. The aero spoiler looks like it does not belong there.

Are you sure about that? The front lip also looks different as well. It also is different on the 996TT with the aero kit as well.
