    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

haha Nick, you are getting predictable!
The only fear I have with this car: It looks soo good because the camo hides all the slats and vents that make the current 997 GT3 look way to busy. I fear that when they take the camo off, it will be another cluttered design with way too many design elements which have no function at all
Well, we'll just wait and see.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

    I love the front bumper.

Does anyone know what the red tape on the rear is? It's on the brake lights of the FL carreras.

What is it covering? reverse light? Any ideas?

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

It looks like Michael Pfadenhauer (Porsche's aerodynamicist) had a part in this.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

    Are you sure it's a 997 GT3 RS?
For me it's GT3 with the rs wing....(narrow body)

(Presumably every part will be 3-5% better than the previous generation but will be cosmetically unnoticable and go unappreciated by the end user)

Marketing Department: HAHA we repackaged the same thing in mostly the same package and are reselling it to renewed interest!!!

Engineers: ((Crying quietly because they've been ignored for the last 5 years))

like it, it's a nice evolution ... notting worldshocking, but only ignorant people expected a worldshocking change anyway...

off topic: should'nt we rename this forum to anti-Porsche 997 Board? it's getting a bit boring to read be honest...

They are reflectors, replacing the real ones integrated ain the normal taillights. But because of the camouflage on the original lights they have to provide suplementary reflectors... IMHO

I agree....don't get some comments here. Why do people post in a porsche board if they are somewhat against it...

Not so sure about that, but the rear look huge to me.

Probably this is just the GT3 and as usual we used to see the GT3 spy pics first.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

Its not an RS, its a normal GT3(narrow body), the facelift seems to be very simple to apply to current 997 gt3 , just by changing the bumpers.....

    Release Sept 2009

Isn't both GT3 and GT3 RS release at the same time?

    I see a widebody

And this side skirt is same as the new Cup S, so maybe this is the wide body RS.

After looking at all those pics, my guess this is the RS with wide body but shorter wing due to the bigger side mirrors.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

It looks like it has the new EU dumbo side mirrors as well.

Are we even sure this is MY2009? I'd say this will be a MY2010 model.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

it will be release in 2009 as my 2010

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

Why bother with the widebody RS?

To maximize profits, the should use the same narrow body for the GT3 and the RS. Lower weight...

The RSR, wider body than Cup racers (that are near production GT3s), is homologated on the basis of the RS. Therefore the extra milimeters are required.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

^Nice, I think this car will look great in WHITE.

Then should make them all wide body...

    Some like them slim!

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

White is becoming too vanilla for me.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

I vote it's not a wide-body in the picture - just not wide enough - the low stance might make it look wider than it is in some pics but it's just not wide enough to be an RS body as we know it. What's amazing is that all of us who own these cars can not tell the difference for certain -

The DI engine it what it's all about. That in combination with the dry sump will make it the ultimate 911.

NBerry - If they change the look/shape any more it would not be in keeping with true 911 tradition - change is something I let Obama and Hillary advocate. I do always appreciate your comments and hope you always feel welcome to inject your observations. Porsche can take it and so can I. I will always be driving a 911, until they pry the keys out of my dead fingers. BTW, the F360 is a beautiful car, the F430 is an example of change being a bad thing - it's a shame the ruined the 360 with that wana be 'Speed racer' 430 style. Just my opinion, neither car could actually be driven like I drive my 911, which is my year around daily driver.

I like that they just changed the bumpers/ lights externally - reminds me of the old days when people would fit the new bumpers to update the look of the older cars (now they actually go retro trying to make an 82 look like a 73 ) It would be nice if they made a really cheap retro fit kit for iPod connectivity, mp3 capability etc. for the older cars. (DI kit for the older cars?)

Overal the facelift seems to be minor cosmetically - good. I like it better that way, the benefit is all about the DI.

Also - notice the sunroof delete in the pictures - now if we could get a decent 100 liter tank it would be a Canon-Ball run monster. Any co-pilots?

    Cheers!

Do you have some information on this new rule? All new cars seem to have gargantuan side mirrors (A5, C-class, ...). I thought it had something to do with regulations and you seem to confirm this?

On-topic: Facelift looks great in GT3-guise, not so much on the lesser models, IMO..
I'm in the narrow-body camp here, it just doesn't seem wide enough...

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

I am with a few of you guys here: the rear looks narrow. I am not too keen on the facelift changes for the 911 but it looks like this GT3 wears it admirably.

I don't have a lot of info to share on the matter but side mirrors have to be of a particular size in relation to the size of the car. Which is why cars like the Q7 have side mirrors the size of a small kitchen TV.

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

Well I have been invited to Leipzig to drive around the circuit next weekend, hope to see something around there!

    Re: Facelift 911 GT3 RS MY2009

    I think it's wide body.

As already mentioned in another post, it is interesting that we can't seem to agree on wide or narrow body, and we're the obssesive-compulsive types when it comes to Porsche!

This reminds me of when someone posted some spy pics of the C4S and there was a thread that seemed about 20 pages long as people tried to make measurements and consider the angles in the pics and still there was no consensus 'round here as to whether it was a C4S or a C2S.

So much for those who advocate for the "beauty of the wide body".
