On the search for black wheel nuts

I have 20" wheels and need some wheel nuts to match the black on my wheels as well as a locknut for each wheel. Any leads?

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

So far the solutions I got are either:

A: cermaic coat them and pray they dun scratch the bolts.

B: order plastic bolt covers for the stock bolts.

Or change out to studs and black lug nuts - you can get from Ruf or Ralph Boothe. I think the plastic look tacky and may come off at high speeds. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the security bolts/nuts.

    have any contact info?

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

How about maybe buy some titanium wheel bolts and have them professionally anodized black? (can't anodize steel AFAIK). There's some DIY anodizing techniques possible too (not sure how good they are though).

How about having the stock units powder coated black and then always use a nylon-lined socket to avoid chipping?

Call Ralph - I don't see the product on his website any longer but he's a great guy to talk to and he can give you some other sources.

Are those bolts rather than nuts? I had my stock bolts ceramic coated by Performance Coatings in Auburn, WA for $60. The coating has been reasonably durable as it has endured 4 wheel removals with an impact wrench. Only a slight coating failure on some edges none of which can be seen when they are on the car.

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

DONT get the lugnuts from Boothe Design. I did but the chamfer angle of the contact points is incorrect resulting in them having come loose on me several times. This in turn creates a groaning sound. I'd either go with ceramic coating or installing the RUF wheel studs like I did and using the black lug nuts + locking nuts from the 993. I like this option because this way you can just slide the wheels on without fear of scraping anything. Of course you can use wheel hangers but this is definitely an alternative.

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

Are the smaller bolts that go all the way around the outside of the rim chrome? If so IMO it would look good to have chrome bolts like these. They would match the numerous smaller bolts on your rims & match the chrome in your silver Porsche Crest. That's what I would do anyway if I had your rims & crest. I actually have a brand new set from Champion Motorsports if you are interested. I was going to use them on my black wheels to look like the Black Werks1 car but went w/ Titanium instead.

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

They're the the same dimpled chrome bolts that are on this car

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

The most important thing is to recognize if your wheels have a BALL seat or a CONE seat. Factory rims come with BALL seats whereas most aftermarket wheels come with CONE seats. You do not want to use one type of bolt with the other type of seat as you will encounter torquing problems like Jason did

The one on the left is from Boothe Design and the one on the right is OEM nuts from the 993

As you can see from looking at the picture, the chrome nuts don't have even contact points throughout compared to the black ones. It was REALLY scary hearing that groaning sound and finding out that they were from the nuts/bolts coming loose!

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

Atomic can you lead me where you got your 993 studs?

Jason gave me a heads up on this before I bought the bolts so I checked on it before I bought the Titanium bolts & used them on the the Champion 171's. They both have the same seat as factory. But that didnt stop me from carrying a torque wrench in the boot & checking ft/lbs after the first 10 miles then at 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 & just yesterday at 2100. Torqued to the same exact 95 ft./lbs. now as when they were torqued initially at 5 miles.

He says Ruf in his response above so the link I sent you earlier should work. Call the guys in Dallas.

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

I should clarify...these are NOT 993 studs. These are wheel studs from RUF. The black lug nuts are OEM from Porsche for the 993 so your dealership should have them. Just to further clarify things, I have 16 black lugnuts and 4 black locking lugnuts (also for the 993) for a total of 20 (5 per wheel).

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

So can you lead me to where you purchased them?

    thanks.

Re: On the search for black wheel nuts

My local dealership got both the studs and lugnuts/locks for me. You can probably save a few dollars by ordering the wheel studs directly from RUF. Get the nuts/locking nuts from your local Porsche dealership. I've said that several times already.
