Alfa Romeo/Maserati 5 year product plan
FCA held their latest 5 year strategy plan for investors at Alfa's test track and proving ground in Balocco on Friday. It was Sergio Marchionne's last such event as CEO of FCA as he retires next year but will carry on his role of heading up Ferrari.
The new model plan looks to be good news for enthusiasts as it includes a new mid engined 8C and a high powered 2+2 coupe based upon the well received Giulia Quadrifolgio and revives the historic GTV name. Both models are set to adopt variations of FCA's new hybrid tech to offer improved performance. The power output of the 8C is quite an eye opener bearing in mind where Ferrari currently are with the 488 so indicates that they will be looking for a significant jump with it's successor. Porsche are looking increasingly out of step if they do not look to bring out the 960 in this sector of the market. It is clear that buyers at this level now regularly own 2 or more such models so there is potential for sales growth by new entrants if the product is right.
Maserati will gain a new halo model in the shape of the Alfieri which has been a long time coming but was delayed to give it an EV powertrain. This may turn out to be a shrewd move for a niche model as it is far more likely to have much wider appeal to a younger audience.
