Thinking about a used 991.1 Turbo S Coupe

8 years and 3 kids later I'm thinking about getting back into a 911! Saw a very low mileage 991.1 Turbo S advertised at an OPC and tempted (haven't driven it yet, they are waiting to collect it as it is being traded in).

In terms of my history, I had a 996 C4S Cab a long time ago, manual with PSE, which I really enjoyed. In particular I loved the sound and how raw it felt (to me!).

Wondering what you think, I've read a lot of posts over the years on these boards and don't want to be disappointed?! I guess the biggest differences are (i) power, (ii) convertible vs. coupe, (iii) manual vs. pdk, (iv) the sound. So quite a lot!

Also wondering whether there is much scope to negotiate with an OPC? I am not a regular customer, and they have not had the car for very long so I guess it is limited.

Lastly also curious when the 992 Turbo will be released, and how much impact that could have on residuals? (I appreciate it's going to cost me some money!)

If it was me with our congested roads and speed limits if I was going down the 911 route i’d look for a 991/1 or 991/2 GTS in many ways a better car here. Uncles of cash cheaper to buy too. I think you’d end up frustrated with the inability to use much of the available performance - and wasting your money as a result. Just my 5c worth.

A nice 991/1 GTS coupe at the right price is about the only car that would tempt me out of our Boxster GTS. The Boss prefers the 911 to a Boxster / Cayman too.

Drive it and see. In terms of useable power - you can’t have too much. I live in a speed limited country and get into all the power each time I drive it. Mind you I don’t go 200 mph around town but thanks to the quiet exhaust and unbeatable traction the power is always useable. My prior c2s was almost too loud to get away with anything and not nearly as quick. Drive it, you will see. Should be able to get a gr at price.

Good choice getting back to a 911 indecision

I would probably go for a GTS too. No I am not biased indecision I test drove the Turbo S many times and while the massive power is addictive it is also useless where I live. I found the GTS more agile and nimbler than the turbo, but this might have been more in my head than real life.

As already stated, you need to test drive. Preferably different models after each other so you get a feel for the differences. Have fun! wink

Thank you. I was finding the price actually fairly similar to a new(ish) 991.2 GTS, so was thinking I might as well go for the Turbo S.

Will have a drive and see!

Turbo S is the flagship, apart from the GT3 GT2 RS models etc. A bit quiet, but super efficient. You can't go wrong. Go for it

Will collect it next week probably as it still needs to go through the workshop for its checks, service and to get a gtechniq coating...

The car doesn't have many/any of the more exclusive options but has the main things;

Seat heating and cooling;

Burmeister stereo;

Automatic distance control and limit display;

Sunroof;

and a few other bits and pieces like the crested headrests, garage door opener, light package etc

Has only done 1,500 miles so feels like new!

And Dreamcar, yes definitely up for that if my wife lets me! indecision

Btw: My E63S has the most special Burmester because it is actually made by Harman & Kardon.

(Mercedes marketing crap, only the bigger Burmester system is actually a true Burmester)

Collected it!!! Super happy! Its soooo fast?!!! But also easy to drive slow and super comfortable!

I also like the sound. Not as loud as some, but I can definitely hear it!! I think it's perfect for me!

Right. It took me at least two weeks before I wanted more power. 😎 Do take your time learning the capabilities because it can catch you off guard. You will appreciate the muted sound more and more as you explore higher speeds. I consider the lack of noise cloaking. It’s he slower cars that need to make noise. That turbo had nothing to prove. Let us hear more of your adventures over the next few weeks.

sound is part of the interest in a car. turbo 911 are fast but lack this emotion where aftermarket exhaust correct this issue on the same spirit that GT2RS did to level up the game. Smiley

GT3 is not far behind the turbo .1, do not underestimate noisy car Smiley
