Re: 997TT vs. GT-R vs. Z06 on road course laptimes

'' Nissan has two very specific targets for the V-Spec. Firstly, its engineers are desperate to complete a lap at Germany's Nürburgring in less than seven minutes and 25 seconds, to take the circuit record.

And they are also keen to topple Porsche's 911 GT2 and GT3 from the top of performance trackday wish lists.''

    The GT-R V-Spec.

''Best Car magazine in Japan has seen leaked info from inside Nissan on the advanced project, and they've given Max the inside line on the hardcore version of Nissan's awesome new GT-R supercar.

Losing around 100kg in weight - by ditching the air con and stereo amongst other things - and be replacing key bodypanels with lightweight carbon add-ons means the GT-R V-Spec will allegedly sprint to 60mph 0.2secs faster than the base model.

As this is the weight of a fully-grown male passenger, it seems that 'lose the man, lose the milliseconds' is key to the new V-Spec philosophy.

The new power figure is estimated at 512bhp with a minor torque hike and as the Japanese manufacturers are usually very conservative with the figures they release, this could be even more!

Further changes are believed to include improved suspension, a rollcage and a reprogrammed all-wheel-drive system to give the new car extra grip and rigidity.

Alterations to the fly-by-wire steering should ensure direction changes with lightning quickness, making the V-Spec an unbeatable road/track car.

Given that the proposed design brief for the GT-R was to be faster around the Nurburgring than the Porsche 911, these tweaks should mean that the V-Spec will not just beat the 911, but leave it standing...''

So it will still weigh more than the 997TT and all that without A/C and radio . The world's heaviest dedicated track car . I'm VERY impressed with its AWD, but the V-Spec is a shot in the dark.

Re: 997TT vs. GT-R vs. Z06 on road course laptimes

Going by the R34 V-spec, I don't think it will dissapoint anyone...

What was that about "Fly by Wire Steering"? That doesn't sound good at all. I'm pretty sure the regular GT-R doesn't have that...

You can connect it to your PS5 via GB WL connection...
All you need is 65" screen and you can drive it from your HT room...

Re: 997TT vs. GT-R vs. Z06 on road course laptimes

Thank you Japan for driving a stake into the heart of European high performance car manufacturers(I predicted this about two years ago). The days of high prices (Ferrari, Lamborghini) for above average performance is going to make these car manufacturers think again (read 430 replacement).

Porsche has a more difficult problem. They have always been know to be the best performance value car. It has a much bigger market and has more to loss. The GT-R and Corvette are making Porsche owners think twice. Also, I suspect Toyota is not sitting on its hands in the area.

Bottom line; this great for all us.

No they are not! Lexus LF-A is due soon with 500hp V10 motor and weight much less than base Boxster. Should be pricey though (well over $100k).

I've heard something about new Supra too, but I don't have any details...

Re: 997TT vs. GT-R vs. Z06 on road course laptimes

There were some rumours previously that the Lexus ran around NBR in 7:25??? Possible?

    http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/214086/lexus_lfa.html

They claim 7.24 for the Lexus.

And there is a 7.22 video of the loaded CSL (which is still the record for a road legal production car). http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=185954#post2585242

So yes it is possible and the GTR V-Spec will be aiming for sub 7.25. Good times for petrol heads.

If these 7:24 are as accurate as the GTR's claimed 7:3x this Lexus will still be slower than the current GT2...

Sorry, all these OEM claims do not help much

Re: 997TT vs. GT-R vs. Z06 on road course laptimes

Lots people seem to be shocked by the results. But it's really not the first time Nissan has build a car like this.

Look here: Best Handling Car In The World 1996

Re: 997TT vs. GT-R vs. Z06 on road course laptimes

Manufacturer claims are not to be taken too seriously as comparisons, but they do give an indication of what a car may be capable of with an optimum set-up and a little tweaking when driven by a professional who is very familiar with the car.

Nissan and Toyota clearly have the GT2 (and the Nordschleife record) in their sights and they both have deep enough pockets and the necessary technology to equal or beat the GT2 at the Ring in the near future.

    Competition is good!

"In sight" describes the situation properly The GT2, however, is not in sight but "on road" already

P.S.: I agree that competition is good - without the improving competition I am sure the GT2 would have been similar to 997TT performance...

    Steve,
With all respect to you-997 GT2 is simply in all another class from GT-R. Every track, every road(dry or wet)-put W.Rohrl in 997 GT2 and F.Alonso in GT-R... Winner? Rohrl of course...

I think we can all agree that the GT2 wins the beauty contest hands down..
