    Re: Finally...M5 gets AWD

As much as I lament things like Porsche's steering feel going from superb to merely good, BMW's has gone from good/excellent to horrid (along with many other subjective facets of driving enjoyment).

Yes. For f'ing ever. They just need to build another CSL from the M2 or M4. How hard can it be? Smiley

Yes, I think M2 is the better platform for a CSL.  I wish the 2er had its own bespoke smaller/lighter chassis.  But it is just a slightly shortened 4er, so weight and girth are unavoidable parts of the recipe.  Also a shame to see the NA engine gems gone from their portfolio.  They really did build great motors (I'm a special fan of the I-6 with 6 throttles and >8k rpm last seen in the M46), though not entirely reliable.

An E46 M3 CSL in modern shape would be so awesome!

That article is over a year old and we did indeed get the GTS (rather than CSL).  Still hope for an M2 CSL though...

BMW desperately need a modern, proper, light weight CSL to show everyone they can still do it..

i too agree that BMW has somehow 'lost it'

i even stopped following what they come on the market with. the last BMW was my x6m and that was more cause the cayenne looked horrible to me and range rover were lacking in the performance department.

as for modern cars not having character and soul anymore, i certainly agree and that heavily influenced my decisions when i decided to go for the rapide s and now the g63.

they are both certainly not cutting edge in any department. but both have tons of character.

    Re: Finally...M5 gets AWD

My DD has been 3er diesel for the past odd 10 years and all have been and are excellent driving machines. I would not think about tracking these cars but still they are brilliant as tourers for longer drives. Having said this, I have a M4 as a loaner for the weekend currently and I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised, the engine is a real beast, if it has to be, the suspension is comfortable yet sporty and providing a bit like "on railes " feedback and the exhaust note in sport is addictive- it is not a race car, however, for me it ticks a lot of boxes. I have AWD on my current diesel, given the high torque numbers these engines produce nowadays I would think that also for M this would be an improvement to better get the power on the road. My 2cts.

You name it. I stopped looking into it, too.

I like what you say - no character, no soul!  I clearly understand why you ordered that G63.

You really don't like the current Cayenne with black LED headlights and black taillights and black rims and PCCB? Wonderful combo on a white car (I know you love white and it is probably very practical in the hot climate you live in).
