I really like the design of the 993 wide body cars. They are also fun to drive, but I don’t think they would make great daily drivers.

Yes, driving the 993 is a joy on great country roads! Smiley I've driven from UK to Cote d'Azur in a day! Smiley

Maybe a bit less fun commuting in traffic, but the air-cooled flat-six is always a great companion! Smiley

The perfect companion; however, the country roads near one are so treacherous that breaking a front spoiler and alloy is a distinct possibility.   In the past five years, one has replaced several sets of tires due to bubbling from pothole impacts.  Not a fun way to try a near classic.

How dare you write something like that?! Smiley Voicing your opinion and personal taste on Rennteam. Shame on you! Smiley

Eey, Whoopsy and Boxster GTS, here is another one you can tar and feather. Better make a screenshot of SciFrog's profile page. Seems like a fake one to me Smiley

Oh don't get your panties in a bunch bluelines, you know it is all about who says it and on what... noone1 voicing an opinion on the 911 is like me doing the same on a wine thread, everybody knows I don't have a clue about wine, I don't get it and don't like it, yet I go in and say that sangria is the best, what do you expect?  Smiley ... SciFrog will not get any heat from the crowd for a similar opinion for example Smiley

My context is that I think the 993 is the second worst looking 911 after the 996 and that being the "last of" doesn't mean anything.

I said literally nothing about the car otherwise.

Appreciating that each Rennteam member is entitled to their own opinion, but you appear to have tacitly confirmed that you haven't driven or owned an air-cooled or water-cooled Porsche, which makes me wonder... Smiley

    1524317397093image.jpeg

...what are you doing on Rennteam, a forum for Porsche drivers, owners and enthusiasts?

Your profile claims that you own a GT3 and used to own a 997 Turbo and an R8? Smiley

Is any of this true? Did you submit a false profile to register on Rennteam?

Perhaps you'd like to tell us all about your Porsche ownership experience, or would you like to set the record straight?

Opinions are all the more interesting when supported by first-hand experience and knowledge... Smiley

Yes, of course I put false information in the profile.

This is a forum for Porsche drivers only? News to me. I thought most people here owned all sorts of exotics.

Why would you put false info there? Just put nothing?

And why half false, I recall you do have an MP4?

    Re: 993 GT2

I had a 72 914,  ‘77 911s 2.7, 1980 SC euro car, 1984 Targa, 1984 Coupe. My aircooled history.  Combined at least 300 k miles.  I know these cars inside out. I wish I still had all of them. Then I owned one of the first 500 996. Still had a throttle cable and no esp.  it was 100% trouble free. Then I had a launch edition 997 with pccb, also one of the first 500. My Turbo I have had for five years now. Average for me. It is a keeper for now with the dry sump and manual.

I never had a 993 but loved the look of the S.

    Re: 993 GT2

I had a 993 Targa, actually my first Porsche and first 911.

Funny story: I drove a BMW M3 E36 before (at it's time, basically the monster to have, there was nothing cheaper/faster in that price range) and switched to the 993 Targa without(!) a test-drive. Big mistake. The first time I got behind the wheel in the 993 Targa, it felt like being thrown back 20 years in automotive technology. No kidding.

From a driver's point of view, the car was a catastrophe. Not even close to the driving dynamics and safety of the M3 E36. The 993 Targa felt like 20 years older than the M3.

On the other hand, I liked the design, the interior and the sound the car made. Very emotional, very Porsche.

I switched to the first 996 Carrera once it came out because driving dynamics of the 993 Targa was no fun, the car was fun to drive in a "Beetlesque" kind of way but I didn't really enjoy driving it very fast.

Why did I get a 993 Targa then? Stupidity. Actually, the sales guy himself didn't recommend it. Seriously.

I wanted a Boxster, it was a pretty spectacular car at it's time and I wanted to try something new. Delivery time was around 12-24 months, so no chance. Then, I spotted a 968 CS, wonderful car, badly wanted it because it suited my needs perfectly. My father, who agreed to pay 1/3 of the cost, was against it. So much money for a 4-cyl. Porsche? No way.  So I ended up with a "last year" 993 Targa, which was available at a special price of 117k DM. Brand-new.

So while I like how the 993 looks, I'm no fan of the technology.

Rare I guess, but I personally don't think the 993 is a bright spot in Porsche design history.

I don't get why this post made such an emotional reaction here Smiley Speaking about cars design, I think, its a matter of taste netto and everyone has it's own views which are completely acceptable.

Personally I do like 993 design, but the slant nose...Smiley.Smiley  If we already talking about "dark spots" in Porsche design history, I'd say Porsche had much worse designed models in their history. Personally I hate 924, 944 and 914 design.  Smiley  What were they thinking about? But hey, it's my personal opinion Smiley From the current models range I really dislike the Cayenne...I've tried...really...but no matter what, when I see it, it looks ugly to my eye. Smiley

Each to their own I guess Smiley

The reaction from@ BoxsterGTS was more a function of a pattern of postings from our friend @noone and not this specific comment. There's  a lot, and I mean a lot of prior history here. Trust me , @noone can handle it.

The 996 had a modern interior but quality (and design) was sub-par, horrible.
