Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

The car is now back at the dealer for the 2nd part of the conversion. I should have it back by the end this week.
For now I have my coupé back ... here are 3 pics of both cars together:

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Rami, what the heck are you going to do with all that power? That's what I like to know Hope there is no speed limit around where you live.

Love your cab specially the color. Enjoy man. Life is 2 short.

The speed limit around where he lives is 75 mph. Doesn't inhibit you much, though, when the police can't catch you .

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

That carbon engine hood/wing means a lot of weight out of the rear, good.

What material is the original engine lid made of? And do you have any data on how much lighter the carbon fibre part is? Would be interesting to see how much you win...

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Dont know the original lid is made of, sorry, but the mechanism to lift the original wing is deleted by RUF (not in Rami's case). Correct me if i am wrong

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Germany is only an hour away silverrules
The up/down mechanism is not present on a RUF Rt12. The 997 turbo's with Rt12 engines still have it for safety reasons (downforce).

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Marc Bongers from RUf Automobile GmbH just answered my RT12 wing-lid weight for a 997 Turbo question, quote:"The weight saving is not so much maybe 2 to 3 kilos".

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Thanks Alcyon! Still is a lot if you ask me, when you keep in mind that C/F is hardly any lighter than Aluminimum, unless you taylor the strengths in different directions...
    -Joost-

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Never mind Joost, I was too optimistic, nevertheless with RUF you can't be wrong, imho it's the way to go on the rear side.

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

    Rami, your Turbo is GORGEOUS!

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

    Heh, thx Adam

Rami, can you post details of the GT2 bumper conversion for me. I'd like to see how it's done because it's something that I'd like to do. Send it as a PM if you'd like.

    Hey Jason,
I went to the dealer today to pick up my car. The GT2 conversion isn't completed yet. Since it's the very first one they do they weren't sure if the radiators needed to be replaced as well.
As it seems you need to change everything. Not only the radiators need to be changed but also the cables for the airco, you need to install the plastic wind tunnel because otherwise you will see cables through the vent located just beneath the front hood.
If all goes well parts should arrive next week and the car should be ready by the end of next week. For now the car has the original turbo front again.
I asked for pictures and they said they will do it.

One part is already on the car now: the GT2 sideskirts.
I was a bit nervous for that part because the GT2 has a distinctive line on the bottom of the car (frontlip, sideskirts, rearlip). The result in combination with the TechArt diffusor is perfect and the sideskirts look really awesome.
Until now I wasn't able to find sideskirts for the turbo I really liked but the GT2's are just perfect! The only thing you need to do is paint them in your car's color.
When you see the car with the GT2 sideskirts you know something is not normal. Put it next to a turbo without the sideskirts and you will immediately notice the difference. They follow the lines of the car perfectly.

I never talked this much about sideskirts to be honest ... I suppose this means I REALLY like them

Will try to take some pictures this weekend.

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

    Awesome... speachless!

Ramsi, give us some shots of the interior. How does your Turbo Coupe feel when coming from the Ruf?

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

I'll take a few interior shots when the car is finished. Still need to add the TechArt steering wheel (ordered) and the RUF instrument cluster still needs to be replaced (they installed one with a black background in stead of white/silver).

The power around 2000rpm is a bit better in the turbo but once you hit 3000rpm in the Rt12 ... the difference is indescribable. In the turbo I was waiting for that extra boost which didn't come and when I was expecting the 2nd boost at around 6000rpm I needed to change gear
Totally different car! One more advantage, the electronic delay of the throttle is completely gone

Sounds like a fun car. Especially when you say that the Turbo feels slow .

Sorry, I don't know if you're comparing your new motor to the stock tt motor or a modified one. Could you enlighten me? Did you have any motor work done, before you shipped it to Ruf?

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

I'm comparing a stock 997 turbo engine with Europipe exhaust to the Rt12 engine from RUF.

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Congrats Rami! Love what you've done! Awesome!

Enjoy the heck out of her!

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

The car now has the full GT2 front installed.
Here are a few pictures ... weather has been real bad here, if it changes I will take more shots:

    One last time together:

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Next on the list is the suspension ... with the GT2 front installed it really needs to drop!

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

    that's awesome Rami!

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Rami - how does the Ruf clutch feel compared to the stock one, and do you know what components they changed?

    Cheers,

    -Alex

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Clutch feels good Alex. I think the 997 GT3 and GT2 clutch are harder to handle.
This one feels kinda stock really. Perhaps a notch harder.

I don't know what has been cahnged exactly tho

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

my compliments for your very good taste for styling porsches rami, I love it!!

If you can find the time for pictures, id really like it to be on my background

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

Rami you rock man - i just saw this on teamspeed.com as well and was like I know that car LOL!!!!!!
    Congrats man!

Oh well, I notice in your spec's you have a dual mass flywheel, so perhaps that is stock and they upgraded the pressure plate and friction plates

Hey, doing a round Europe trip with the Porsche Club GB 997 guys in August - fancy meeting up to compare against my RS-Tuning 'puny' 800Nm Turbo?

(there will be a GT2 with us too)

Re: Rami's Porsche 997 turbo "R" cab by RUF

    very nice work Rami!
