MMD what in the world does a Trans-Am Firebird have to do with the Corvette or Z06? They don't look the same, drive the same or even share the same parts. Just because they're technically made by the same parent company (oh and the Firebird isn't even in production anymore) means absolutely nothing. The F430 and the Panda are made by the same parent company so obviously the 430 must be a piece of garbage as well

And then comparing the Z06 to a fictional car from the 90s Batman movies?? How old are you?

Actually, the Panda is a great little car! A bit underpowered (although it is fun going full throttle on the highway and not worrying about getting caught by the police ), but with a nice option package really useful for city driving and fun, too.

    I'll try to be clearer.

The problem I have with the Corvette is the way it looks. Other than that it's a good car.

The looks are meant to please everybody. The result is like the Firebird and other "generic" cr*p from GM. Very conservative, very reasuring, very reiterative, very boring.

The Batmobile is Hollywood's interpretation of the popular conception of what a fantastic performance car should look like.

The Corvette is GM's interpretation of the popular conception of what a performance/sports car should look like.

I found it humorous how close Hollywood and GM are in their interpretation of popular taste.

    By contrast (for example):

The Lamborghini is Lamborghini's interpretation of what a Lamborghini should look like. Period. As a result you have cars which are truly amazing-looking; succinct, coherent wholistic design statements. You don't even have to like them and yet an educated eye can still see they are brilliantly executed from a design POV.

It's sad in a way that GM MUST style corvettes which look like corvettes ought to look like. They must meet expectations of the masses. As a result they look like Home Depot faucets. If GM didn't match popular conceptions, sales of the car would plummet.

I hope that helps. This really isn't that controversial. It's obvious, right? I dunno... .

How do you figure that, if the Z06 looks nothing like a 53' ? The Corvette of today shares only a name with the Corvettes of yesterday. So there really isn't a set way the Corvette is supposed to look now is there? The only car I can think of that has kept a pretty close look from start to finish is...the 911 Not saying thats a bad thing but thats the only car I can think of that seems to have a set way it should look

There was this documentary on TV about the new Corvette.

They spend alot of airtime on the issue of how the new look might be a _disaster_ because Vette fans might be turned off by it.

I couldn't comprehend what they were talking about. Turned out that the headlights were the issue. They were afraid the HL would make the corvette no longer look like a corvette should look.

Kinda blew my mind and proved to me that Corvette (and all GM?) styling is at the mercy of popular tastes and expectations. THAT can't be good for innovation!

BTW, I do NOT mean to insult anybody. I'm merely saying what I think. BTW, I have all sorts of styling issues with Porsches too.

The issue here is a big one for me. The only thing which stops me from getting a Corvette (good cars under the body) is the way it looks; I just can't get over that. I'm trying to account for why I feel that way. Not trying to "prove" that guys who buy one are nuts.

    Re: ZR1 fetches a cool $1 million at Barrett-Jacks

Well you've certainly eased hostilities and what they were specifically talking about was the lack of flip up headlights which had actually been featured on the Vette since the early 60s I want to say. I think its good they came to their senses because car styling has certainly gone away from that design in the last 15 years.

Good. Wheeew. It's not worth alienating people over. If my neighbor got a Corvette I'd be very happy for him. Would be fun to study and inspect the car over time.

Same thing with BMW. I owned BMWs for 25 years and loved them. Now I refuse to buy a new one because of the way they messed up their looks! I have some theories on THAT too! But I think I had better shut my mouth now.
