    PASM Sport mode - soft?!

Is it me or is there only a very small difference in stiffness on the Turbo between Sport and Normal PASM settings?

My old 997 C2S Cab was night and day between the two settings. The Sport PASM use to make me nauseous at low speeds on anything but smooth tarmac. It was just rock-solid.

With the new Turbo I can hardly tell the difference!

Re: PASM Sport mode - soft?!

I felt the same way on my extended test drive of the 997TT. I felt there was no appreciable difference between PASM Normal and PASM Sport on the 997TT even though the salesman kept telling me that there was.

He was saying that PASM on the TT is exactly the same as PASM on the Carrera S. I don't buy that for a second.

PASM on the TT is lovely. PASM on the Carrera S IMHO is not.

Re: PASM Sport mode - soft?!

I would agree. When I had my 997S I could not put it into sport mode. Just way too rough. When I got the TT I realized the difference between sport in the TT and sport in the S was VERY different. Before I put springs on the TT I used to keep it in sport almost all of the time. Could never do that with the S.

Re: PASM Sport mode - soft?!

normal is ok...sport is teeth crushing tough.....depends on the roads. go stiff on a bad road and it becomes really annoying after a few minutes....

Re: PASM Sport mode - soft?!

"How much" is a matter of opinion but, my 2 cents: There is most surely a significant and noticeable difference in my car between the 2 modes.
On a smooth freeway it is hard to notice. However:
    1. In a curve at high speed, the Sport mode reduces lateral body roll and the car leans a lot less.
    2. Under full acceleration, the Sport mode reduces significantly the front to rear weight transfer. Car doesn't "squat" as much.
    3. On a bumpy road, the Sport mode is for me kinda brutal for driver, and especially so for passenger.
    4. If you take a **bumpy** corner at high speed, the car feels unsettled in Sport mode. It feels as if the suspension is so stiff that the wheels bounce off road surface and lose contact either on peaks or troughs of those bumps. I am no professional driver/tester but I do suspect this is the source of many complaints against this setting in magazines and among users.

So in the end, this system leaves me in a quandary. I like it stiffer but then the ride becomes too harsh. Maybe the Turbo is just perfect the way it is, being designed as a supercar daily driver. Maybe somewhere there is an after-market coilover system (HRE PSS10 vs. Porsche X73) that strikes the perfect middle ground: stiff yet still compliant.

BTW, when I see speed bumps or when exiting driveways with steep slope, I hit the Sport button so that the suspension stiffens and the front lip is less likely to bottom out.

the roads I run in sport jar your bones at times and tranlate the car a bit more then intended.take the car off the table top roads and try it on angulating twisties.

Re: PASM Sport mode - soft?!

IMO opinion 3 setings are required: Normal, Sport (stiffer but not as stiff as at present) and Track (something like the present Sport). The Cayenne GTS with steel suspension has dampers with 3 settings. So maybe something to look forward to come the facelift this year.

Re: PASM Sport mode - soft?!

    Hey Nick

I will have more of a play with some countryside backroads in Sport PASM and see if that makes more of a significant difference.

    Cheers,

Porsche manual doesn't describe this but I could swear the TT has 3 suspension settings:
Normal: sport off and pasm off
Sport: sport on and pasm on
    intermediate: sport on pasm off

I could tell without looking at the lights if the car was in normal mode vs sport on/pasm off just by the slightly different stiffness.
I always felt that since day one and I think like others above that full sport/pasm is too jarring except on a smooth highway.
