Removal of the centre console on a C2S

Before I can remove the centre console (I have an annoying buzzing from inside I need to stop) I have to remove the gear knob and the leather gaiter.

How does the knob come off and how do I release the leather gaiter from being attached to the console itself.

    Any guidance would be appreciated.

You pull up the leather boot (gaiter) from the rear. Reach down into the boot at the rear and pull up and push slightly forward. The shift knob detaches from underneath but only turn the nut <90. If possible, fix the buzzing without removing the knob...just moving the console out of the way enough.

Thats great thanks. Should get time to do it today.

Re: Removal of the centre console on a C2S

Also check B&M website. I think they explain how console comes off here:

    http://www.bmracing.com/index.php?id=products&sid=4&cat=3&subcat=15&pid=187

here's a diagram of how it's put together:

Some good info in there fella. Thanks for that, particularly the PDF.

Re: Removal of the centre console on a C2S

You'll break something if you try STEP 1 pic A from the B&M instructions. I bought the B&M SS and it was easy to install once you get past that very misleading pic. Is mine the only one that doesn't come off that way? Screws hidden under the boot hold down the plastic piece.

Re: Removal of the centre console on a C2S

Thats right, the screw only disassembles the shifter itself. Once you've seperated the leather gaiter from the shift knob get ready to pull as hard as you possibly can upwards to remove the knob. Its a tight fitting so wrap a towel over the top in case you follow through and smash up either the mirror or worse, the screen.

There is a two-piece nut with a sloted hole in each piece. You rotate the lower nut to align with the top and the knob pulls off very easily. To re-install, just do the reverse but don't tighten...just ratate it <90.

My guns are only about 18"...well, maybe 17" and it was about a year ago that I did it but I don't recall it being too difficult to remove. The pain in the ass was getting the leather back around and underneath just right so it fit tightly under the knob. You need three hands.

Re: Removal of the centre console on a C2S

Yes, the leather bit is probably the hardest especially if you're a perfectionist and want the leather stitching to line up exactly on either side of the shifter when locked.

Dunno why they moved from the older 996 methid of a grub screw. I've heard quite a few stories of people needing windsreen replacements ever since, mind.
