    MKSGR:

You are right. I just expected that the water injection was only used under extreme circumstances to stabilize temperatures. However, it seems the system is more or less used all the time you driving really fast (like track fast).

No surprise for this system to be used all the time. keeping 700hp at reasonable temperature is not something easy.

let's wait for summer time here in UAE and we will see how the system operates Smiley

    MKSGR:

There are reports from customers using their car on the track that say the car reduces power when the water tank is empty (with some LEDs coming on, warning about the reduced power).

When professionally tuning the older 997GT2 VTGs expensive Secan/Marston intercoolers were needed at over the 630PS level due to the heat from the VTGs.

The 991GT2RS uses a new bigger hot side turbine housing which will mean relatively cooler running and lower intake temps but it seems that 700PS is not achievable with just production intercoolers.

It would be interesting to see how bolting on a set of my Marston intercoolers would affect this, I would have thought they would hold onto the 700PS without needing water spray, they managed 735PS on my older 3.9 litre VTG engine which ran the small turbine housings....

It should be a no brainer to put a set of these bearing in mind the price of the GT2RS, they run at about 9K Euro a set..

Exactly. Just raise the price and do it right. That’s what you expect from a luxury brand on their top model.

Do you really think Porsche would have sold over 1000 GT2 RS for a 350k base price? I doubt it.

I also think that a "fitting" engine wasn't actually available at that time and that McLaren surprised Porsche with the 720S...again.

It's mainly because Porsche customers would be up in arms if Porsche made them buy a car worthy of the price. Porsche customers demand that Porsche fit $170K of premium into their $80K car.

The better question is can Secan supply at least 2000 intercoolers, if not 3000 or more of them in the time frame Porsche wanted? Each car takes 2 intercoolers, the production run will be at least 1000 cars, on the low end, maybe Secan can push and stretch to make the quota, but definitely not at the high estimate.

Excited to see how the GT2RS's water sprayed 700PS fares against the 720S;s 720PS in a 0-300kph power/traction play Smiley

    720S was

    0-100kph in 2.7s

    0-200kph in 7.2s

    0-250kph in 11.3s

    0-300kph in 19.4s

Also interested in what the car actually weighs in its presumably Weissach road trim, I am expecting 1475kg but  Smiley

You have a point, however if Porsche is able to source at least 4000 magnesium rims and a few hundred or thousand carbon swaybars... I would be surprised if they cannot manage to source the necessary amount of intercoolers. Granted, there might be an additional production line necessary for that alone.

I do not find that water spray function to be very ingenious, on the one hand because it has been used before from other manufacturers several years ago and on the other because it is only a compromise necessary because the target couldn't be met otherwise.

The price is already raised in a very ridiculous way for a 911 with extra oomph, while the quality seems to degrade in newer generations in a much faster way as their nbr lap times  Smiley

I was attacked many times back in 2014 when I cancelled my GT3 x2 order(s) and jumped onto the Italian V12 wagon and many thought I was mocking Porsche on purpose Smiley

I'm glad this news about the GT2 RS came out directly from an old respected member, can't blame some customers that will be looking into V8 exotics from Germany, Italy & UK as replacement  Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

Just for some illustration for those who are unfamiliar with intercooler detail, the cooling effectiveness comes mainly from the core materials and construction, here are some pics.

Firstly the standard Porsche Spanish made production intercooler

Next the Marston product, these are the intercoolers I have on my 800+ hp 997 GT2

Lastly the latest cores from Secan, this intercooler is from my 993 turbo.

The Marston and Secan are an aerospace quality with materials and techniques used to create radiators/intercoolers for military helicopters and commercial areoplanes, Marston in particular also supply high end race teams inc formula one, these are expensive and not to be confused with the tuner market offerings.
