This. F1 cars can go way quicker but if they allowed for that kind of design, it would make an already boring sport even more boring by making this like passing even harder.

Correct. Formula One cars aren’t low drag vehicles when compared with the 919 EVO and similar cars of the same racing class because of the exposed wheels. This is a tremendous source of drag even with the elaborate bits of aerodynamics and fluid flow control to minimize the impact. Closed wheeled cars are that much more efficient, aerodynamically.

I did not go to much into details as the Bellof laptime is based upon a full racelap (1983 configuration) whereas most other are BTG. But looking at fast lap times, the Radical SR8 LM have done a 2:16 at SPA where the 919 did 1:41. That is 35 seconds slower.
The SR8 did 6:48 at NS BTG which in my view indicates that the 919 will destroy the Bellof time.
