    911 Vanity plates

I would like to hear what different people have on their vanity plates. Here in Texas they have banned almost anything with a 9/11 reference.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

I've seen all kinds, but I don't think I'd put them on my 911. Up here, some lady who is a preacher of some sort was denied her license plate renewal "REV JO". The Ministry of Transport (DMV) said it encouraged street racing. After some public outrage about political correctness gone too far, she was allowed to have her plates back.

I've always said that if and when I get a Lambo, I'm going to buy that license plate frame that says "My other car is a Porsche"!

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

    GT3RS on a GT3RS!

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

I've never ever understood people that buy personalised number plates just to advertise the model name of their car. To me if people were genuinely interested in what car you were driving, surely they'd just look at the badge.

Here in my part of Australia we have personalised plates available with the top level being where you can order any (reasonable) combination of letters/numbers up to 6 digits for around $2500. They have recently done a limited release of 7 digits plates. I attended the auction and was amazed to see people bidding around $25,000 and then choosing things like CAYENNE. I mean are you kidding me, $25K to advertise the model of your car when it's clearly visible on the back of it already To me that's just insanity.

Even the limited run price of $3K for that is crazy. I understand (and have) your name or nickname or something like that, that is at least portable between cars. What are you going to do with a model specific plate when you upgrade?

Hope this longwinded response isn't too cynical (i'm having a tough day )

In my case after several inquiries like "what kind of car is that?", I bought a license plate frame that just says "Porsche". After all the only name badge the car has on it is on the front trunk lid, which isn't very visible. I agree, paying for a plate with the car model on it is really a waste. Of course here in the states personalized plates don't cost very much in the grand scheme of things, so they can be rather fun.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

Will be interesting to see what happens in Texas in regards to your plate pricing, as the company that handles ours in my State - www.ppq.com.au has just won the contract to be the supplier for personalised plates in Texas.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

If I ever get the chance to own, say, a 911 Turbo, I would reeealy like to have the license plates that I have seen on some old Porsche Turbo photos - '911 HUL'

    Looks great IMHO!

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

I bought personalised plates for my 911 here in the UK from DVLA for Pounds245. The plate is very similar to my wife's first name.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

In Dubai we dont have personalized plates where one can choose what is written on the plates. But we do have a system here whereby the fewer digit plates are more expensive. The most digits is five and the least digits is one. And then if there is a number which matches a exotic car, the price is even more. For instance, 997 goes for around $100,000 and 911 about $150,000. A single digit number, say 5, goes for about $700,000. And you can either buy these numbers at auctions conducted by the transport authority or pay someone who already has it some premium. Basically, the numbers here can sometimes cost more than the car!

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

I just ordered mine, hopefully they will be here soon. Univeristy of Texas Plates, "997C2S". Most people on the road won't get it, or think it is a personalized plate at all, but those of us true enthusiasts will understand.

I like that. Once abroad, I met a couple configuring the wife's vanity plate as the phrase "honey" in her mother language. A gentle way of showing your esteem for her.

Do you guys, as in Asia, have preferred digits - due to spiritual or religious reasons?

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

things with "3", "8", "9" are ussually good. However, it is all depend on the combination of number.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

I've seen some plates like this "WWVWMMWM". When on a plate close together, you have no idea what it actually is. I guess it's so nobody can read your plate and call it in to the police if you do something stupid.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

Just gave up when I traded in my C2S Cab : "997 S CAB"
Have reserved for my incoming Turbo Cab.: "997TURBO"
Have on my F430 : "AJ SAMMY" - My son & daughters nicknames (they get a kick out of it)

    My 1993 Harley : "1HOG1"
    My 2004 Harley : "2HOG2"

    Cost - $25.00 a yr/ think I pay less for the bikes.

I never understood why people get a plate that states the obvious

Like getting a plate that says "cayman", when a few inches above on the rear of the car it already says "cayman"...

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

    On my C4S Cab: STR9117.

I really likey the way it looks. I believe it costs $30-35 per yr.

STR= Stuttgart Germany: the "baby" and my birthplace.

911 = yes, pretty obvious. Don't flame me bro!

7= MY, my favorite number, and of course " Lucky Number 7."

Rossle7 on my Cayenne S. It's the workhorse in the stable.

Not really....its just what looks good to you...the fewer the digits the more expensive the number is due to the limited supply of that number...also 1, 2 & 3 digit numbers have traditionally been used only by vip so whoever can afford it now to distinguish themselves is able to do so...

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

I have always put Porsche 356 ownership at the top of my Porsche reverence list with one in restoration now. So my 997S vanity reads NOTA356.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

    How about:

    CMXI

    38F

    3E5 S

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

Mine is CSSSS for my 997 C4S. It looks good on the car. Only the cognoscenti can work it out!

    My Swiss plates:

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

Reminds of a story, a bit off topic but...

I was in Italy for a few weeks early last year. We were up in Como and decided to head into Switzerland, to see Lake Lugano. Coming from Italy, I saw the price of petrol on your signs (as in the pic above) and nearly had a heart attack! I wasn't aware at the time that Switzerland wasn't on the Euro, and that the fuel over there was actually a bit cheaper than Italy, which is already astronmical compared to here. We're paying 0.66 Euro for a litre of petrol.

    Now, back to the topic!

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

Does anybody think a vanity plate might get you some negative attention?

There's all sorts of reasons not to like "rich" guys in fancy cars; why give such creeps something to easily remember you by? You might have passed a guy and he judged it as an insult. Someday he and his handful of keys remember your car when he sees it parked all by itself.

    Not worth it IMO.

    Re: 911 Vanity plates

Some vanity plates will probably attract negative attention. Those that come to mind are the "in your face" type plates like, KISSMYS (kiss my a$$),or IH8U (I hate you), or BETRNU (better than you) or FASTRNU (faster than you), etc. I suppose any vehicle recklessly ripping by, wearing that kind of moniker will be remembered to the detriment of its owner at some point. As a bonus, these plates, while legal, have a tendency to attract the attention of the local constabulary. On the other hand, if someone has a proclivity toward keying a nice car or performing some other senselessness, I am not sure a vanity plate or the lack of one is enough trigger or prevent such behavior.

I have had vanity plates on my cars for years with no ill effects (however I will grant you that I have never had a "fancy" car and I have been a conservative driver...up to now )
