Cabriolet warning - no water bottles next to seat!
Driving my 2007 C4 Cab in a night rally in pouring rain on winding roads in the Santa Cruz mountains, I put a water bottle next to my seat on the door side. The top was up, obviously, but I still had the wind deflector, folded down, in place over the rear seat.
I noticed something was not right when I opened the door after a brief call of nature. The electric seat had reclined way back. The deflector was mangled. My navigator, who stayed inside the car, said he had heard something, but thought it was me getting something from the trunk.
The culprit was the water bottle which apparently dropped down and jammed against the switch when I shut the door in a hurry.
I have patched the deflector with epoxy in 2 places, and it is functional, but I expect it will have to be replaced.
Moral: if you have a deflector installed, don't put anything on the door side of a seat that could be pressed against a seat control when shutting the door.
