    997 gt2 turbos ??

can we use the 997gt2 turbos for the 997tt ??

GT2 has different intake in addition to the turbos - someone could probably retro-fit for you but maybe some ECU programming needed too.

The GT2 turbos have a larger compressor wheel and tuned to produce more boost.
It is a lot cheaper to have the TT turbos upgraded with a larger compressor wheel than to buy new GT2 turbos. I just did exaclty that a couple of weeks ago.
A new tune will also be required either way.

Nick, who did your turbos and why only 620hp?

I'm not Nick, but I would speculate that it's to assure longevity.

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

    But I am nick..
Protomotive Usa did my turbos.. He is a friend of mine.. the car is insanely fast and I have done more that 20.000km with this setup.. No problems at all... He has also raised the rev limiter to my tiptronic

He did mine too and that's why I am surprised. What other mods do you have? A manual TT with ecu/exhaust/vtgs dynoes just over 560whp which is more than 620hp crank. Could it be that the tip requires a different tune or maybe he was less agressive with the tune since you're overseas?

Nick, I got some info from Todd K. He says manual cars are putting down about 7% more power to the wheels than the tip because of losses through the converter.
A manual TT with ecu/vtg/intercoolers puts 600whp while the same setup on a tip has shown 566whp (same dyno).
So even if you don't have intercoolers I think you're still making about 560whp which equals 640hp+ at the crank .
Sorry for stealing the initial thread

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

Mine made 649hp (flywheel) with modded vtgs/exhaust/intercoolers/ecu by sportec. 100-200 in 6.1sec, 200-300 in 13-14secs. Car is v fast even though they limited the torque to 840nm in midrange (which I don't like)

AAHTT, how much does a 600 rwhp seup by Promotive cost (ballpark)?

Nick, did you ship your car to the US?

Are these perf. figures taken from speedometer or from GPS ?

    Regards

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

The 200-300 was with speedometer, the 100-200 as well but also done with vbox and was confirmed at 6.2sec in 1 run I tried. All runs were with 2 people, full tank and 50 kg of luggage so I think they could probably be improved. You can see them at youtube.com/Tsakg1
My friend was driving on the 200-300 run and he actually did a pretty lousy shift from 5 to 6th..
Unfortunately car in the uk and its not possible to try it again here..

Crash, the 600hp are awhp not rwhp and that setup from protomotive requires an ecu tune (3000$), an aftermarket exhaust (3500-5500$), upgraded vtgs (2000$) and intercoolers (2000$) for a total of around 12k$-15k$.
I have all of the above except the intercoolers which are probably more necessary in europe for sustained fast driving and I have paid about 10k$ in total.
The car's tires slightly broke lose today in 3rd gear on dry pavement going straight and I was more shocked when I realized the car was in non-sport mode.
The vtg upgrade even combined with a conservative 1.2 bars max boost has literally transformed the car that I am having to relearn how to drive it hard all over again .

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

In one word: WOW!!! Your Turbo sure is turning into a power monster.

Thanks for all the interesting info. You are making it very hard for those of us still too concerned about warranty issue to tune the ECU.

I've also noticed not everyone in Southern Cal. is using GMG Racing. I am not familiar with the shops, just surprised because I thought they would be more popular with tuners secondary to their racing program.

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

I would like to add that the intercoolers will also add power as well as response since they have a much better flow. Mine made I believe 20-30hp more (with custom ecu tune) because of the ICs.

I used to have Evoms Stage 4 kti on my car.. So I also have the intercoolers.. But Todds (Evoms) stage 4 is extremely slow compared to Protomotive's.. I posted all my cars results on 6speed and they erased them!!! (They had a problem with the database was the answer).. Protomotive managed to make my rev limiter also much higher.. Especially on the 5th gear.. No problems at all..
With Evoms I had also problem with the full gus when I was stepping all the way down my petal.. I am really happy with Protomotive.. I also have cargraphic exhaust with headers and evoms Intercoolers.. 0-100 3.4sec 100-200 6.3 sec compared to evoms stage 4 0-100 3.4 sec 100-200 7.0 sec..

Yes, Evo gets lots of hype at 6speed. 9.7 seconds 0-200 km/h !

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

I can't comment on EVOMS' 997TT kits (manual or Tip), but for my 996TT tune, installed by my dealer, EVOMS has worked great-I recently changed the Bosch MAF sensor to the Hitachi unit for more accurate sensing up to 1.5BAR/700HP requirements.

BUT Protomotive (Todd Knighton) is an excellent Porsche tuner-I am using his setup for my 993TT 3.8L conversion. Protosport in New Jersey is doing the work. They are devising a manifold intake that is OBDII-compatible-relying on the 993TT ECU, that can be quickly converted to OBDI compatibility-relying on the 993NA ECU, allowing us to tune over 700HP with a speed density system rather than the MAF system that the 993TT/OBDII works off of. It's a big job with all the appropriate mechanical mods. to handle the extra power. We will be using a suspension with BilsteinHD shocks with extra threading with H&R springs to help keep the wheels on the road.

    I can't wait for spring.

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

One has to remember that EVOMS's numbers are done in Arizona in 90-100F weather and at 1000ft altitude. Both factors lead to slower times than if the testing was done at sea level and 70F. My AWE/GIAC stage 2 car on race gas pulled a 6.6s 100-200kph time on GPS which is faster than the EVOMS stage 4 car, but I am at sea level and temps were about 75F

    Re: 997 gt2 turbos ??

thank you all .. what is the best intercoolers for the 997tt ? and can i use the 997gt2 intercoolers ?
