997 GT2 prices around the world

I've often sat there thinking about the prices of cars - most of the people I chat online with are Aussie, US, or UK, and so I generally know pretty well the price of cars in each region. But I wanted to know more, so I went through a bunch of the worldwide Porsche 997 GT2 pages to check out prices from around the world. Real eye-opening stuff!

As far as the whacked out Denmark price goes, that is legitimate!

I've been googling and it seems Danes get taxed 180% of the car price to put a license plate on it!!!

Just google Denmark car taxes to look stuff up yourself and be amazed!

here in egypt we pay 257% import tax on cars above two litres.

Nice research Ash. It truly is obscene the prices we pay here compared to the rest of the world. God we don't even get the 3 year warranty like the US does, yet we pay double. I'd love to know what the import tax is here. Then we'll know if we are being robbed by the government in taxes or if PCA are bending us over. My gut feeling is it's both.

I thought the USA gets a 4 year warranty plus the benefit of State lemon laws...

So I guess this says that we Canadians should quit whinging about our prices vs. the US...

.

It would be interesting to see how these prices compare with total Porsche sales to each country, eg.to see if PAG is in some way amortizing its costs of distribution over the varying sizes of its regional markets.

As for the Aussie P-costs, just remember that the Barossa is worth lots...

A moderate aside on taxes and prices

US listed prices for items never include taxes and we don't have VAT. Depending on the state, and including license and registration fees, vehicle taxes range from close to 0% up to about 12%--still not bad compared to our Danish friends but getting closer to an apples to apples comparison.

If you were to buy a GT2 in Ontario, Canada right now, assuming the base cost of $235K plus taxes, it would come to $304K Australian Dollars, or $266K Canadian. We have a 13% tax on EVERYTHING we buy (except mile and diapers I believe).

I thought we had it bad, but it looks like Egypt and Denmark get it worse.

A GT2 w/ the parking helper

You'd think if someone is skilled enough to benefit from the performance of a GT2 they wouldnt have troubles parking without hitting anything.

The dollar may be tanking but you still get way more for it here, not just in cars, but also food, housing, etc.........

The "parking helper" is in fact just the cap for the hole through which the front towing eye is screwed into the front bumper.

The rear bumper hole is hidden behind the rear number plate.

I once did a calculation to see what the "real" cost was about a year ago when I was at the point of moving again. I figured into the equation my cost for the car, the petrol, parking, insurance, tolls, servicing and even depreciation and figured out that it was about the same cost to own a car in the UK, AU or JP! Three countries I have lived in and still spend considerable time in.

UK had the highest petrol cost but you can get better mileage.
Australia had the highest purchase cost but it also had the highest resale / least depreciation,
Japan was the cheapest to buy but the most expensive to park ( USD 600 per month for my apartment) In addition, daily toll charges of USD 15.00 to get to work and back and the worst resale price! 45% depreciation in the 1st year! It does settle down after the first year though.

I think if you were to factor in average salaries and living costs it might be even more interesting, Japan is expensive to eat or drink out and petrol is not so cheap (USD 1.60 per litre) but I think some of the other countries are mega expensive in terms of petrol.

Ultimately, whichever way you look at it, the USA has it the best. I figured, I could get a 997 Turbo and a Cayenne Turbo plus a 987S for the Mrs if I moved to the USA quite easily on my current package and still live in the a nice area! U lucky buggers!!!

Am wondering what the costs to import a 1yr old into Oz would be..... Transportation and taxes?

i would be an interesting exercise to strip out all the taxes and then sort them. That sort would probably match with a ranking by sales volume.

So good in fact, that I am shipping two this year! I bought a new 996 a couple of years ago for that very purpose. I lived in Sydney for a few years and have a few friends there who are happy to buy from me. Even with the import duties and taxes (50% plus) including luxury car tax its still worth it. Especially since Australia gets the same car as Japan the bigger of the two markets in Asia.

Downside is, most Porsches in Japan are tiptronic and to get a RHD manual you have to wait several months unlike a LHD manual which can be had within a few weeks.....Most Japs like LHD better than RHD. Roads here are designed pretty badly with exist and entrances on both the left and right so it doesn't make too much difference whether you own left or right. I have had both here. Currently own a LHD 997

park assist only in the back on all 997's

what's really weird in my opinion is that the owner or dealer specced the car with adaptive seats instead of the buckets
