Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

Anyone see this article in car and driver, they tested these cars - 0 - 200 - 0,

    1 Heffner Ford GT - 1098 HP
    0-200: 18.9
    1/4 mile 10.6@152
    0-200-0 26.5

    3 Heffner Lambo Gallardo - 881 HP
    0-200: 25.7
    1/4 mile 11.3@137
    0-200-0 37.6

    2 Hennessey Venom - 1033 HP
    0-200: 22.0
    1/4 mile 11.1@145
    0-200-0 30.7

    5 Lingenfelter Corvette - 1109 HP
car broke down consistantly, they tested the car 4 weeks later and here were the numbers and 3 more breakdowns, they day was 15 degrees cooler compared to when they tested the other 4 cars
    0-200: 18.9
    1/4 mile 11.3@147
    0-200-0 27.0

    4 Saleen S7 - 755 HP
    0-200: 38.2
    1/4 mile 11.6@138
    0-200-0 49.6

my scanner is dead, but ill get a new one tomorrow.

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

Thanks for the interesting performance figures Kozzoloz.

I would be very interested to know how the Bugatti veyron compares to these amazing cars.

If you look at the 4 Saleen S7 it posts exactly the same 1/4 mile time as the Nissan GT-R.

Proves that even acceleration is not just about hp and low weight but getting the power down/traction.

The Saleen S7 is 500kg lighter and at 755hp is 275 more than the GT-R.

I bet it is also quicker around the track.

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

I can't believe the S7 numbers? I hope they're wrong, otherwise I'm really disappointed in those stats.

I'd think a 750HP racecar would be able to scream to up to speed faster than the GTR.

Time is irrelevant. Look at the trap speed instead.

    cann you scan the article?

    TIA

Am I the only one who thinks these cars are very stupid? They're good for nothing but ruining tires, making a lot of smoke and noise, and going fast in a straight line. It's hard to get the power to the ground too.

I agree, give me stock anyday. Where does the modding stop?

If you could drive one and then say you prefer stock
then I give up on you. Obviously not a performance oriented
    person.
Car & driver magazine has NEVER been Lamborghine friendly
until they drove the Heffner TT in Nov 06.They raved about it.

I'd like to be able to avoid burning the tires from just touching the throttle with my toe. Also, I think a 600 HP V10 is plenty. Personally, I don't need 1000+ HP (unless it's a Veyron, but that car's completely different).

I am certain they used to think that 20mph in a car was totally crazy at some time. These are not meant reasonable grocery getters (for that discussion anything over 100 horses is crazy), they are fun toys and for the cost of a 599 (also not very reasonable) they get double the power! It seems more resonable to get 1000 horses for $300K rather than 500 horses. Might as well. If it costs the same why would 500 or 600 make more sense than 1000? I just don't get it. Not being able to get traction is not a good reason any more than having too much money results in a bigger tax bill.

Everything changes - you can never have too much power. How much hard disk space in your PC is enough? Still not convinced? OK, then - how much money in your bank account is enough?
Give me more power any day. I doubt any F1 Team has your attitude regarding power! More is always better. GTR faster MY FOOT!

How about when you can't get the power to the ground? Wouldn't you consider that too much power? More is not always better. More money definitely is, but that's completely different, and there can be a point where having a massive hard drive is a waste (my parents have a 750 GB hard drive and haven't even used 100 of that). You do make a point though, these cars have a great bang-for-the-buck value. Saying these cars are a waste though is a personal opinion. Of course other people see a Turbo as useless, but again, in my opinion, it's not.

    Yes.

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

The beauty of this car is you can get power to the
ground.! That is why it beat a twin turbo 1400 HP
viper in a 30-130 mph run

Well I'm an [beep]. I completely read over the Gallardo!

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

Very fast and impressive, but IMO completely unnecessary and useless (for most purposes). The Ford GT is a wonderful car stock and I would keep it like that.

If I really needed a dragster/quarter mile vehicle, I could think of many other base cars to modify.

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

5 star for daily driveability yet you say
    "completely unnecessary and useless"??????
Obvious to me you don't modify ANYTHING.

This Gallardo IMHO is the PERFECT car totally
necessary and useful for this driver.....

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

I can't wait for the quad turbo Murcielago to be done!

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

think it is only going to be twin turbo mag was in error.
Heffner had mentioned quad turbo with me but
Canadian fellow that owns the car is opting for twin turbo car.

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

Are his initials LL? Too bad about the quads, that would be insane, but extremely difficult to accommodate.

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

    Zahir is his name

Re: Car and Driver Feb 08 - Zero to 200 and back

Ah, the guy from Calgary. Well I'm looking forward to seeing those numbers!
