"Driving at the Ring recently in a Ferrari 599 GTB (Porsche had it for appraisal), he found himself gradually gaining on a black car in the distance. Eventually he is a metre from the back bumper of what turns out to be another 599. Into one of the last corners, its driver makes a mistake and Röhrl dives up the inside. Later the black car draws alongside, its window winds down and the driver calls Röhrl a 'lunatic'. Mind, Michael Schumacher never was a good loser... "

Before reading to the end of the story, I had a feeling it would be Michael in the other car. This would be a great story if true.

Yes, he has. During development process you drive competitor's cars, furthermore there have been people paying for the joy of being chauffeured by Röhrl in their very own Ferraris.

Chauffered is a funny word in this context

To Michael's defense, he wasn't riding a F1 car... A sports car like the 599 comes closer to a rally car than a F1 machine.

Not that I was ever a big MS fan mind you

Röhrl is amazing, but common guys.. hes must be at least 4 times older than MS! i love the MS hate but he was the best F1 driver ever. period.

Actually W.Röhrl was born in 1947 and M.Schumacher in 1969...

To shed some light on Röhrl's abilities, there was a comparison betw. rally & racing driver bach in the 70ies, featuring Röhrl and a certain K. Ludwig, being very succesful in sports- and touringcar racing up until a couple of years ago (still competing in some national series). Röhrl's performance was astonishing, both in his very own rally car but in Ludwig's touringcar as well (if I remenber correctly, he postet the fastest times in both cars). Trying to dig up that article...

The ring is like the home course to WR, he knows every bumps and curves and everything else, so he SHOULD be able to catch anyone in a equal car, even MS.

According to another source (topgear - see link below) MS's reaction sounds more like a friendly thumbs up towards WR (of course using some typical racer language

BTW - IMO a very nice description of the GT2/TT/GT3 different characters

Still not sure which word MS used - "Bastard" is not that common in German. Maybe he said "Schweinehund" or something similar -LoL

As a Rhinelander he could have said "fiese Möpp" also, but of course WR is Bavarian (more familiar with "Du Hirsch"

I think Rally drivers are just amazing drivers. Period.
Loeb tried a F1 for the first time 2 weeks ago.
After 10 laps he was only 0.9 sec slower than regular driver kovalainen...Not exactly slow...

I find that really hard to believe that Schumacher would 'make a mistake' in that (or almost any) situation. He is FAR too competitive for that. My guess is he was just out tooling around if it was indeed him.

I read the same version. However, I was surprised with his time of 7.59 for the 599. Maybe, it is not the type of car WR is accustomed to driving around the Ring.

I have seen 7.47 for the 599 but not sure who posted it.
