If they can coat the inside of the barrel, they can coat the whole thing. I don't see why you couldn't get a CF wheel with an aluminum looking finish.

You probably could, but even I would not want to pay £18K for it.

Are you sure about the 18k? Last thing I heard was more like 28k. Smiley

I think he just meant the price of coating/painting them silver ;)

Please do. Curious about your opinion.

OK, having seen them in person, I like them even less. Visually a complete mismatch in colour and weave with the rest of the carbon on the car. I get the functional benefit of weight loss though, however, I doubt I will spec them.

Quite surprised you didn’t like them. I took another look at it yesterday and think that they tie in nicely with the other external components done in carbon fibre as well.

Just shows that tastes are different. Smiley

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

Base price of the Pista in Germany: 217.563 without VAT, 258.900 including VAT.

Problem for the early birds (=buyers): Ferrari expects you to spec an additional 70k in options.

outch...that is not very pleasant to receive instruction on how to build your car...

well I guess it also depends on the option price list which is not cheap...but 70k is serious option list.

259k is not expensive for such a car I have to say. Smiley 70k in options is quite a lot though. Smiley

I would probably end up with a car worth 270-280k or so...still worth it for what the Pista has to offer and especially compared to the new 911 GT2 RS.

Not the first time Ferrari does this... I don’t agree with it. Just raise MSRP and be done with it, they will sell every single one they make anyway.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

they should make a "launch edition" with 70K worth of optional equipment and avoid this crass approach to pricing.

The  upping the base price or making the launch edition approach undermine the bespoke ethos offering to Ferrari clients. I want to chose exactly how my car looks.

exactly. but since i don't want all that useless carbon fibre around (i don't even like the look of it, just plastic with a pattern) for outrageous money than i do not see why i need to buy it.

Carbon fibre may look nice (subjective of course) but for parts like diffusors or front spoilers for example I find it highly impractical. Gets damaged much too quickly and costs a fortune to replace. Kudos to Porsche and their relatively cheap plastic lips at the front. Smiley

That will certainly keep your final spec price down. Have you decided to go for the Pista / get an 812/ or stick with all the plastic bits from Porsche Smiley?

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

The funny thing is that CF prices will continue to come down down down and eventually you're going to find it on a $30K Honda. Composites are the future and CF will not be a fancy material any longer.

It always struck me as strange that people bought e.g. carbon fibre wedding rings for this reason.

my family was shocked about my environmentally outrageous idea to get the 812::)))) even if i could handle that (maybe by washing the dishes by hand from now on with very little soap instead of using the dishwasher for, say, at least 20 years) i was not overly thrilled when i drove the car recently in the UAE (on very nice mountain roads:::))). the engine is obviously a beauty but still there is an undeniable sense of heaviness that lingers. i am not used to that i have to admit. the pista: i am a bit torn between loving and hating it. it has a bit of that south-side body shop aspect to it (i know the RS has a big wing.....) but you can convince yourself that everything has a purpose (not sure if that is true though). i do like the GT3RS.2 though...trop porsche offering currently in my view.  most likely i shall go for a late allocation of the pista after all, but not 100% convinced. when is yours coming?

I have a carbon fibre front lip, rear diffusor, side panels and rear wing. Looks good, no doubt.

Almost lost a side panel (a clip "broke"), replacement cost would have been over 1000 EUR or so. A guy I know damaged his front lip, replacement was over 2300 EUR as far as I remember. The rear wing replacement is over 4000 EUR...ouch. Don't even want to think about the rear diffusor replacement cost. This is an Audi, not a Ferrari. I can imagine how much this stuff costs for a Ferrari. Smiley

i'd say yes. the only reason why i can have one (as a non ferrari serial buyer) is that i had serious issues with a previous ferrari dealership, which ferrari apparently wants to rectify:::))) or more precisely, it is difficult to get an allocation confirmation for the first bunch of cars they will produce. next year will be different i suppose.

i'd say possibilities will most likely arise at the end of the production cycle.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

If you don't have early allocation, it's kinda pointless to buy one since the replacement will be right around the corner. The replacement will vastly outperform the Pista just like every replacement before it, and this time there is no "NA" argument, not to mention it will be a much bigger leap in design (348 -> 360 -> 458 -> next-gen)

So yeah, you can either get an end-of-life turbo V8 Ferrari that still uses the 458 design language, or a next-gen turbo V8 Ferrari with new design/platform not too much later. I know what car I'd want...

This will be market dependent as usual. However in general supply is tight.
