Nice little surprise from my dealer.

I received a very nice/ unexpected gift in the mail today from my dealer: A Certificate of Authenticity for my Cayenne S.

Very cool..it notes the Model Year/Type, Production Completion Date, Price and Specs. I likey a lot!

I believe I'll order one for my C4S Cab now- or perhaps/hopefully Santa will bring me one for Christmas.

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

I got one from my dealer, too, a few months after I took delivery of my 911S. They are quite nice.

For those that didn't get one (some dealers throw them in as part of the sale), you can order one from Porsche Cars of North America (if you're in the US or Canada - don't know if Mexico is covered by PCNA) for about $25. They don't send it in a frame any more, as the glass and frame often were broken during the delivery process.

I went to a local frame shop and picked out an appropriate frame plus had the shop put a preservative on the paper to prevent any yellowing or other deterioration. It's worth it.

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

I bought a new Boxster in 2002 and I was surprised with an aluminum (sculpture, paperweight, I don't know how to describe it) with a Porsche logo on it and my VIN number engraved on a little gold plaque bolted to it. PCNA mailed it to me about 2 months after I picked the car up. Apparently they don't do that anymore but it sure would have been nice to get one for my C2S as well...

And after that you simply buy the next addition to your stable to receive more little surprises

The marketing guys really know how to refresh customer relationship: I just received an invitation from the PZ to pick up a Christmas tree Will be somehow difficult with the Boxster though - guess they'll try to talk me into getting a Cayenne if I'll show up with the Bimmer to pick up the tree

@ JoeRockhead: I guess you mean this ? (got it as a first anniversary gift)

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

Well, i've got to say that some of you are lucky. We do not get this here in my area.

    Yes, that's the one.

I believe it is dealer dependent here in the states. The ones that have a better grasp of customer service and brand loyalty will buy these things (probably at a discounted cost) from PCNA and send them out as a freebie.

I must say that I was suprised to receive the "Certificate of Authenticity" from my sales person about a month after buying my 997. That is the only thing they have sent me though. I ended up buying the trickle charger myself although I learned that one of the other dealers in town gives those free when you buy a P-car from them.

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

I got one "for free" for both earlier Porsches. Should be getting one for my new car.

Big Q: what happened to my "free" Christophorus? I should have a subscription for life by now.

BTW, you can get ultraviolet filtering glass if you want to frame the CofA. However the acids in "cheap" non-archival paper are mostly responsible for it turning yellow.

HAHAHAHA! GREAT IDEA!! - When ordering the car Porsche should offer us a costly "Freebie" option where they send us "goodies" three or four times a year for the first few years.

Like Liz Taylor during her filming of "Cleopatra;" supposedly part of her contract was that she was to receive a special surprise gift every few days during shooting.

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

I think what bothered me the most about the freebie pictured above, is when my dealer said 'Porsche stopped doing that' when I asked about the new one. With the profit margins they have, they really don't need to scrimp on these things and the gesture of sending you something like that really helps make the purchase and ownership of a Porsche feel 'special'.

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

The words "free gift" don't exist in Porsche GB's vocabulary

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

in the Swiss vocabular either. But i'm happy that for others it does exist and thank's for sharing.

I thought you bought yours from a German dealer.

I got a few goodies but nothing special..

    Clever tactic, PJ! lol.

I love the anniversary gift !

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

I did buy it from a German dealer I haven't received anything from my German dealer. But UK dealers don't give out freebies either...biggest gripe IMO is the total lack of discounts when you buy the car

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

I received certificates of authenticity for both the Cayenne and the 911. I'm so relieved... I worried they might be counterfeit.

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

Exactly - I can understand why you might want a Certificate of Authenticity to prove that your Rolex is not some fake from Bangkok or that your Fendi handbag is not a fake from Manila. But I wonder why one might actually need a Certificate of AUTHENTICITY for a Porsche?

If buying a used car, I would simply need to know that the car's mileage is genuine, that it hasn't been in any accidents, that there is no finance outstanding on it, that the number of previous owners is correct, that its service history is genuine etc etc...

If a Certificate of Authenticity covers these issues then that's fine - I would then completely understand why it exists and I would retract what I've written above with all due apologies given.

BUT I can't understand why the owner of a new car would need this?? Perhaps someone could enlighten me?

After all, I think you'd instantly realise if your Boxster was not a real Porsche but a Toyota MR2 in a Boxster body!!

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

The marketing of any luxury product is all about pumping up the customer's ego and making them feel really good about their purchase. There's a lot of psychology involved in the marketing of high end products. I think most of us recognize we're being stroked, too, but we don't care!

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

True, and what I read from the first posts, is that it shows which options were originally on the car, so you can see what any previous owner (when you buy it second-hand) has added...
    Might influence the price?

It's a momentary thrill which you can study with satisfaction until the phone rings or someone calls out. Then you file it under "Porsche" and forget it.

Like Christophorus magazine. I get it, it makes me happy (slick covers) I thumb thru it, look at all the nice sumptuous pictures then, most of the time, toss it in the recycle bin.

Or that our Cayenne's are made from a large percentage of shared VW parts.

Re: Nice little surprise from my dealer.

In Belgium you should begging to be allowed to buy a car, every time again. the freebies are not exciting. all we have is sometimes a great Porsche Party. At least if they don't forget to invite you.
