Maybe you should get into an entry level exotic for the time being, like a Cayman GT4 or something like that.

A Cayman GT4 is an exotic? Smiley Where? In Switzerland? Smiley Smiley

I wanted to start with a F12 or Aventador before I got my 991 Turbo S but now I'm more into a used "old" R8 V10 Plus (if you consider this one an exotic) or a used Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 because I could afford them.

My heart however goes to the Huracan right now...my wife already gave the green light, just not my bank account. Smiley Smiley

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

2012 Aventadors are under $300K in the US now, though I've heard 2012s are much worse than later cars. Huracan is probably $210-215K after some bargaining. Huracan is the better car and more or less the same straight line performance, but the Aventador is way cooler looking IMO.

They made over 5K Aventadors already, so they are going to get really, really cheap pretty soon IMO.

On eBay, used, there are currently 160 Gallardos, 32 Huracan, 38 Murcielagos, and 81 Aventadors.
On cars.com, used, there are 250 Gallardos, 89 Huracans, 59 Murcielagos, and 131 Aventadors.

That's an insane amount of Aventadors when you think about how long it's been for sale and how much it costs.

RC would rather eat his Sportronic rubber slippers than setting his foot in a GT4.

It is too extreme for him anyway. It is a Porsche Motorsport car not some Ford hotrod.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

Just to add some numbers from recent SA tests...

    Ferrari 488 GTB

    80-160km/h(4/5/6/7 gear)  4.3s/5.1s/6.6s/8.9s

    Porsche 991.2 Turbo S

    80-160km/h (4/5/6/7 gear)  5.9s/7.4s/9.9s/15.5s

Do I need to explain what this means despite DCT in both cars?

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

    Yes please?

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

    JEANTET:

    Yes please?

Imagine yourself in 488 driving 120km/h on the autobahn and me in 991.2 Turbo S at same 120km/h behind you... Then we both floor it at the same time...

And I watch as 488 drives away...

    This is the outcome.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

    Ok understand.

488 numbers are pretty impressive .

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

Would be cool if they could get all those cars tested again with the latest tires and see where they line up. I bet some are way quicker than the numbers depict.

if i could choose new between the 488 GTB and the 458 speciale i'd take the speciale .... a no-brainer for me. i'd trade my GT3RS immediately for a speciale but not for a 488 GTB,

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

    Peter,

It is your opinion. I agree almost, but not fully.

Just... Had a chance to test drive 488 GTB last weekend. Impressed as much as possible. Guy who owns it has 458 Speciale as well. He do not share your opinion at all. For him (long time Ferrari mid engine cars enthusiast) 488 GTB is more complete product. And 488 is way faster then 458 Speciale on the road.

Those numbers are impressive , looks like the cars are in really different leauge, did not expect it to be so fast.

    Kreso,

what you say is totally correct but for me the 488GTB lacks character. i can't put my finger on what it is exactly but it lacks....the additional speed (no denial of that) is totally useless, it can only put me behind bars. i do not want the fastest car around but the one that conveys the most feeling. GT4, GT3, GT3 RS and 458speciale - although very different cars - hit the sweetspot for me. i do have a preorder in for the 488speciale, i hope it will solve the character problem. if not i stay with porsche.

    Re: 488 GTB/GTS

I see that Ferrari starting using Cup tires on their Non-Challenge Stradale/Scuderia/Speciale models.  They didn't do this on the 458 GTB, afaik.  Makes a nice improvement!

    Peter,

Character? Or to be fully honest idiosyncrasy?

991 GT3 RS is fantastic car that only makes sense if you drive it above 6000rpm. Can you do it daily or  in the city traffic? No.

488 feels powerfull at low revs as well. When it gets to 6000rpm you are already way faster then RS at 6000rpm.

I am not saying that 488 is a better sportscar then 991 GT3 RS. It sheer rawness it isn't.

991 GT3 RS is for me fantastic sportscar. But, for me so is 488 GTB. I would like to exploit their differences on daily basis.

no Kreso. charcater. i mean feeling that the car conveys to you on the road.

not true. the RS is a lot of fun (read conveys feelings of driving the car) even at very low revs.

488 feels powerfull at low revs as well. When it gets to 6000rpm you are already way faster then RS at 6000rpm.

faster, yes, and then so what? more powerful yes and so what?  the 488 did not talk to me, the speciale and the RS do.

did you read the ECOTY where the GT4 beat the 488GTB (and the RS)? i fully understand their judgement...

I am not saying that 488 is a better sportscar then 991 GT3 RS. It sheer rawness it isn't.

991 GT3 RS is for me fantastic sportscar. But, for me so is 488 GTB. I would like to exploit their differences on daily basis.

to exploit the speed of the 488GTB you have to remove even more speed limits than for the other contenders. one thing speaks for the 488 GTB though: the looks. just fantastic, the porsche turbo S looks ridiculously common and bland next to it.

stop complaining and try to enjoy your car.

You still want Speciale then go get one. Many are still available for sale with low mileage. Even new ones.
