How do you manage with the Cups on those cold roads ? Lots of little break into a sweat ?
It was relatively warm during the day, around 10°, I was amazed how hard the Cups gripped on greasy surface at these temperatures. Doing a full throttle launch on greasy surface in 1st, 2nd and 3rd was almost zero wheelspin, I'll upload a video shortly.
That said, in the evening the temperature dropped to 3° and it's as if the Cups stop working altogether, zero grip.

Cups...under 5-7°C, the compound gets too stiff, thus resulting in very bad traction. Careful with Cups at freezing temps, tires can get tiny micro cracks, which usually aren't dangerous (they usually "disappear" once the tire gets back to normal temps) but if humidity gets into these cracks and temps go freezing again, well...

Kobalt:Cups are Ok down to -10°C according to Michelin.
I heard minus 6-7°C...for moving cars! Not that the difference to minus 10 is that big. If you keep the car stored, temps need to be even higher.
People need to be careful where they store their sportscars with semi-slicks.

Oh come on, Porsche called them all sports cars
And this one actually handles quite nicely!
Kobalt:Cups are Ok down to -10°C according to Michelin.
This is interesting. The Pirelli P Zero that I have on the GTS are not advised to be used below 7 degrees Celsius and Pirelli’s warranty, including for cracks, is not valid if one drives with these tires below 7 degrees Celsius. These are not even cup tires, for f... sake.
How can Michelin be so different? Are the frenchies that much better than the italians at making tires?

I guess that the various manufacturers might use different materials for the cord and the rubber compound (of course) and the chemicals used to bind the parts together also differs and have different properties.
Having a tire that is not OK to be driven under 7°C does not feel so good.
Most of my driving is on Nürburgring: It is not unusual to go on track at 2-3°C in the mornings.
There is an interesting new review of semi-slicks and UHP tires in the latest Sport Auto issue.
Just as a remark, has nothing to do with that freezing temperature topic.
