Actually I think it is a very sexy rear. The lines are clean and very Porsche-design like. The new rear-lights been to expected. Also - it is a wide body, not sure if this is the wide or they even will build a wider one. But hey - didn't they introduce the wide body initially because they needed the space for the Turbo intakes? Maybe they need the space for the new cars, too?

One point I'm not sure about - it is a bit too much black plastic on the car. The diffusor looks good but this kind of shiny plastic is typical VW. And the grill on top of the car is for sure the first thing they change with the facelift. Last not least - that third breaking light looks hideous.

But again - all over it is a sexy rear - beautiful car.

    Right? Smiley

As to the free advertisement for Porsche: A company like Porsche cannot allow anyone in the Porsche organization to leak new products. This was not an intentional leak btw., as much people seem to believe it. There are certain professional guidelines in effect, incl. various NDAs and contracts. A breach is not something any company would take lightly. This is a matter of principle.

My guess is that the 992 will line up visually with final Mission E in many details, so that buyers see the E as a 4-door electric 911.

I like the 992 too, very refined looking car and performance won't disappoint.

This is Porsche's new signature design language, it will be used in the upcoming Macan facelift and the Mission E.

This earlier P'shop got pretty close to the finished design in terms of the rear lights, lower air outlet positions. Perhaps the standard rear bumper may look closer to this design.

The PDK lever actually looks better live, the photo is a bit misleading. I also heard that they might reconsider the design.

They really should rethink it along with that hideous cup holder. It's a sports car, not a mobile Starbucks indecision  At the very least make it a no cost delete option.

The Braun shifter is going to get a lot of negative publicity from the press as most journalists and bloggers are going to say either have a decent sized shifter you can hold or just replace it with buttons. Perhaps an errant young designer at Porsche heard that driver's like "short shifters" and thought this micro piece of plastic is what they meant by it Smiley

Re: 992 (Next 911 generation 2018/2019) Thread Closed

Its quite obvious that Porsche is hiding something on the passenger side, hence the reason why they had to re-position the cup holders and place them in the centre console Smiley

Re: 992 (Next 911 generation 2018/2019) Thread Closed

IMO they need to disguise the cupholder someway, like the retractable one on the 991, there is no place whatsoever for a cupholder on the open right smack in the middle like that on a sportscar enlightened

Regarding the new PDK lever, not the best design, to thin for its height but its still a big step forward from the huge stick on the pre-992 models that looks like it came from a slushbox auto sedan.

There won't be anything of note hidden on the passenger side as the dash design follows that of the Panamera where that area is just a large expanse of decorative trim. The wide screen PCM is partially obscured in that photo by the cover. The location of the cupholder also follows the Panamera in being moved to the centre console as sadly US customers appear to not only want to wear 10 gallon stetsons Smiley but also drink from 10 gallon styrofoam beverage holders as well which the neat dash pop out items from the 997/991 simply cannot hope to hold.

You are right for the tiny percentage that we constitute. You have to remember that the vast majority of 911 drivers need this cupholder badly. They can't live without it, and it needs to be obvious and very visible and easy to access.

What's wrong with a round hole there? One don't have to put a drink there if one doesn't like. It can be used for storing a phone, or a walkie talkie during track days. Or coins. Or the car key. Or whatever one need to store.

This 'hole' is infinitely more useful than the monkey bar aka 'cup holder' in the 991.

But alas, this is European thinking vs North Americans. Smiley

I agree, I never liked those cup holders because most bottles and/or cans were "gone" in the first curve. Smiley

The PDK lever isn't actually necessary anymore, they could have replaced it with buttons. Smiley

Actually the 991 cupholder holds my phone perfectly and right in my field of vision, not so with this american supersized softdrink cupholder in the back of the center console indecision

I disagree, RC. The PDK lever is needed as long as the paddles are not fixed to the steering column. Sometimes, I need/want to shift with the steering wheel turned and I don't want to think which paddle is where. I also like the feel of the PDK lever (short crisp travel) over the paddles.
