    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

    DaveGordon:

Saw that pic on FB as well, the green looks more in line with what the person from RL described from their factory sighting. Also an interesting comment on the end of that thread:

Just returned from a Porsche Ice event and info is that there will be WP but not yet. Clubsport version will have normal steel cage, no alu. Car will be produced in two turns, and the WP verions will be offered in the second turn only, probably early 2019. Info also is that yellow is std, free colour. Expected production time turn one is may-july 2018, (I have comfirmed info on cars with production date on each of the three montsh, so the story about just two months is incrrect.) Then next turn will depend on demand and capasity. I wouldn´t mind too much about the 13hp, there was no info on that, but anyway this car is about grip.

This information is only partially correct, the particulate filter version is rumored for release in autumn. Production will continue way into the year 2019, over 3000 cars (minimum!) of this version will be produced, maybe another 1000-2000 cars of the version without particulate filter, so rumored figure is over 5000 cars total. No kidding.

Would seem that 5000 GT3RS would more than satisfy demand, and in turn dissuade both dealers and flippers from speculation.  Is that PAG's intent?

I wish but maybe they just have enough capacity before the 992 production keeps up or yes, maybe they just want to make people (and dealers) happy, I don't have a clue, maybe both.

the .1 version is not a rare bird either... what could be different with the .2? wink

they will build as much as they can this is for sure. few months ago, production was already forecasted to november at least. I will know soon when the last car will leave the production line.kiss

The rumored particulate filter changed everything...now they can produce the car right into 2019 and longer (I guess however the with the 992 model portfolio expanding in 2019, 991.2 GT3 RS production will seize at some point).

there are 2 steps regarding regulations for this year. One change takes effect from 1st September. the second step is the 31st of December 2018.

if you see the RS passing the line in January, that means their homologation could go valid up to 31st of December 2019 at max. stay tuned.

by the way, the 1st september obligations apply as well to all car homologated prior september 2017 = also for the GT3, hence its possible stop...before the 31st of august, other wise the particulate filter is compulsory.

No more GT3 after June/July as far as I heard. Actually, there were rumors that last production is around April, with May,  June and July months only for Touring production. Not perfectly clear yet...

So most important is to know now what difference engine wise it will make between the cars with the filter and the ones without the filters ?

Back in the 80's when I bought my Golf GTI it was the first model fitted with a catalytic converter . The car dropped from 139 HP to 129 HP .  Luckily for me my catalytic converter '' melted '' at some point and the garage just took everything that was inside out , leaving only the outer box . I had the 139 HP back again .

Agreed - this is the key question, and should drive the desire to have an early car.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

I wonder if porsche has something up it's sleeve for the possible filter version to compensate any performance drawback that it held back on the pre-particle filter version for this reason, like a little engine tweek. I would be more worried about the possible changes in sound since 10HP more or less is not going to be very noticeable, and a possible worsening of sound may not be easy to compensate if at all  .. we will likely only know when it's too late to get a pre-sept unit if its more desirable.

It depends again on the homologation...

car will be on the market with probably only 1homologation otherwise you can be afraid for the second batch  Smiley

I would guess that’s what the Weissach package would be good for. It’s an exlusive option for the particulate filter version of the RS.

Personnally I wouldn’t bother too much with the sound. The RS’ purpose of existence is mainly for being enjoyed on the track, and many tracks have strict noise restrictions already.

This is exactly my worry...that they rush into adapting particulate filters and performance and of course sound suffer.

I specifically wanted the E63 S AMG before the next model year because of the lack of particulate filter. The current E63 S engine puts out 650-690(!) hp in average (officially only 612 hp) and I doubt that a particulate filter will keep this power level. It will drop, probably to 630 or so but it will definitely drop, so performance will suffer, even if not on paper.

Sound? Well, a particulate filter works similar to a turbo charger regarding sound, so... Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Does the particulate filter need to be periodically replaced or cleaned like an intake air filter?  Or is it meant to last the life of a car like cat converter?

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Well, if it works like the diesel ones, it _should_ burn itself clean periodically. Problems arise if you do a lot of short commutes / city driving when the engine doesn't start the burn process at all (takes about 20-30 mins) and the filters eventually get clogged and need to be replaced -> diesel filters cost anything between 1-3k€ plus labor. I've talked to various diesel drivers around here and earliest replacements start around 50-60k kms.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Particulate filter on petrol engine should be maintenance free.

It is also less expansive than diesel ones and works better due the high temperature difference of the exhaust flow...

the bad side is it that filter creates additional back pressure and petrol engines hate that.

the lubricant will also be important and specific

all of this sounds exciting, doesn't it? angry
