    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

That painted interior looks good. I toyed with it for my GT3, but went anthracite in the end. Was glad I did when I saw a red GT3 with it - didn’t look good IMO, a bit plastic-y. Works with some colours - white, black. Perhaps it looks good here because of the extra green features in the seats and doors..? Nice, anyhow.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

I am conflicted. A no cost option but concerned it may be too much green. I'll have to see what the standard option looks like. If you click on the picture you can zoom in on the material. I believe it is the same carbon trim on the seats. if so, that would bring the interior together.

I will most likely take the carbon. To my understanding, it is supposed to match the seats as well.

I have decided as you have. The carbon rich and elegant. The green looks aftermarket. As it is, the car itself looks somewhat aftermarket. The painted trim would be over the top.

Another option would be the leather (which is free, I think)

The configurator is a mess. Now I can't configure the carbon trim. It now shows a dull finish if you don't paint. That's the only option if you spec the green interior. yes

Isn't the carbon trim standard on the RS ?  It was on the .1 RS    That would justify the 28% price difference compared to the GT3 Smiley

Did you try shift-command-3? Should dump a screenshot on your desktop

FWIW: This works for me but I might need to do it a couple of times or I just get black screen dumps.

When trying to enter full screen it takes me a couple attempts before it will enter full screen. When in full screen it takes a couple of seconds before the web browser is responding again.

I agree but to Porsche's defense I have to say that it has been improved a lot over time and the competition configurators are much worse in my opinion.

I configured my E63 and C63 and the Mercedes configurator sucks too. Images are not correct all the time (sometimes they are, sometimes not), the whole option list is confusing and not well organized, Porsche has done a much better job in my opinion.

To be honest, I don't get it, it cannot be that hard to offer the customer a nice ordering experience. Smiley

There are some quirks for sure, but tend to agree - in general it works pretty well, and supports the plethora of options available.  What is bizarre is that Apple Mac/iOS support for the 3D configurator is missing/broken.  Surely a decent portion of Porsche's customers are also Apple customers..?

Yep, I don't get it. At all. Smiley

I suggested a couple of years ago to use photorealistic images (actual photos!) for the configurator but maybe this is too much of a hassle? Smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

The answer is probably that the developers of the 3D configurator are Windows users and they do their development on Windows platform. Therefor they do not care/test enough on the Mac plattform.

I'm guessing that there is maybe even more Mac users then Window users amongst the Porsche customers.

This would be a viable explanation but not worthy for a company like Porsche. Cross-platform development is a no-brainer nowadays. Even for less talented developers.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 991.2 GT3 RS (2018)

Quite - developers are often saddled with e.g. a windows dev env, but it's up to the business people to realise/prioritise the fact that customers will be using different platforms and they need to work and be suitably tested..

That would be great if carbon trim is standard. I just can’t get the configurator to show it. It shows a dull finish and it is between a dull finish and painted, I’ll go with painted.

Developers especially in luxury brands are morons if they don’t develop for the Mac. In th US I would say 75% of users in their potential segment are on Macs or iPads, if not more.

I’ve spec’ed mine and it will be LG with satin black wheels plus the LG trim around the wheels. I also used the launch car interior. To me it is the best combination for this car. The only item I did not agree with was the PCCB’s.

And pray how are you going to exploit this on the La Jolla roads? Or have you gotten over your "what's the point of a GT car on the road" angst?

    Excellent point!

When I sold the .1GT3 because of the questionable utility of the car on public roads, I bought a 2017 Targa 4S. Beautiful car but it lacked the sound, rawness and excitement that the GT3 gave me. I decided to once again try the GT3 and bought the .2. I love the car despite the fact there are very few places for me to give it a spirited workout. I do work it out but my options are limited. However, even at lower speeds the car is a blast to drive. The RS will be a step above the GT3 and I owe it too myself to experience it. I recognize it will be less compliant on the road and more track focussed but it more than compensates for itself in appearance and performance.

I have come to understand, that not owning a raw exciting car is like missing an important ingredient for my happiness.Smiley

    New Zealand Nick,

Sun Just did 3k from top to bottom with virtually no traffic, a few roadworks, lotsa snaking' n shiftin' but you still won't use the aero on the RS....  There's nothing over 120 mph on the two lane roads, and bumps can be the limiting factor.  Lotsa fun and at least you use 1,2,3,4,5,and some 6..... and brakesSmiley

Otherwise, the N-S two lane in Nevada is fun but very high speed.

The 3D configurator does not run well on Windows either. It is based on a 3D plugin from Unity which is now out of support and only sort of runs on IE and not on any modern browser.

Something new must surely be in the works.

Maybe something to think about, a high quality configurator for car brands, may be some good money in this. Smiley
