Z06 stock Impressive numbers

Very impressive 1/4 mile numbers indeed.

I saw this on Z06 forum and the car is a stock car.

very impressive if the weight is also stock. maybe someone can explain how a 500 hp car weighing over 3000 pounds is going 130 mph in the 1/4 .
both CGT and enzo with similar weight and 100+ more hp are half a second slower than this car and only slightly faster at the trap, which doesn't make sense.

Something is not right here

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

Not sure what his real name is, but Ranger over at Corvette Forum has been known to get some rather impressive numbers out of his Z. Much better numbers than a regular schmo like myself could get

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

Sure, as stock as a stock car racer.

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

cant believe this... I'm not that familiar with the Vette, but I cant believe those figures... very impressive

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

Probably the sticky surface at the drag strip?

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

Am I reading the slip correctly...he had a NEGATIVE reaction time? That is impossible unless he took off on a yellow.

Absolutely no way!

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

Tried to post earlier but works blocks that crap. Anyways is the COORS LIGHT Torco Race Fuel line the type of gas he is using or just an advert on the slip and if so would it make much of a difference at the drag strip?

That's because quartermile times recorded in Drag Race timing system aren't comparable with those recorded by datalogging systems used by many magazines. For example in Drag Race timing system it's typical that car moves before it hits the start timing lights/sensors, and furthermore trap speed is average, measured by two timing lights at the end of the Drag Race circuit.

I don't say that quarter mile timing system is providing false information, I'm just tying to point out that you have to compare apples to apples. So anybody have Enzo or Carrera GT elapsed times in Drag Race circuit & timing system?

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

I spoke to Katech at length about the dyno numbers and the fly-wheel HP the LS-7 is putting out. Remember, Katech has their own engine packages for the LS-7 and they build the race engines for the C6R.

Dynos vary based on how they calculate HP. Tuners and others can claim they make the "most" HP, but there are significant variances. Katech has a challenge out to any tuner to bring their "highest HP" engine and put it on their engine (not chassis) dyno to test at the crank for a true HP rating. No one has done it.

Katech assured me that the vast majority of engines - almost all of them - are making about 505hp and not much more.

Going back to Ranger from Corvette Forum, he has drag racing down to a science and even posts tips on how to get the best possible time. It's all about wheel spin - or keeping it to a minimum.

It is difficult to believe that the Z06 weighing what it does can run the times that it does, but I think the launch in the Corvette may be easier than in the CGT or the Enzo. The new launch control for Ferrari may have made a big difference if it were available on the Enzo - look at how quick the 599 is compared to the Enzo. We all know how much more a 599 weighs than an Enzo.
It is possible. Traction is key. This Z06 also ran in 45 degree weather. The colder temp will help the car breath better and it wasn't cold enough that it affected traction.

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

Ranger does take amateur drag racing to another level- better than any " factory " tester. . He could make a good living moonlighting as the " official " quarter mile tester for car manufacturers , whether Porsche or Hyundai.

OTOH, I believe that the better way to compare accelaration where it really matters for stock street driven " performance " vehicles is rolling 10-120 mph acceleration .

..and I thought Mr. Von Saurma is the one who we should trust when comparing cars... :-)

This is carried by Autoblog today:

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

11.08 @ 128

11.11 @ 128,

11.02 @ 129

10.98 @ 129

All on the Factory issued Run Flat tires.

And then on drag radials only:

10.96 @ 130,

10.92 @ 129

finally a 10.83 @ 130 mph!
These were all the times for that day. Believe it fellas. The only thing hampering these cars is traction and the damn torque management. That's why no one can get 60ft times under about 1.6 on a stock car. Launching any higher than about 3500 pulls power out of the car in second gear. My best when my Z06 was stock was 11.3@127.The cars are confirmed by several other members of corvetteforum to be bone stock.

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

I do believe these times. The Z06 is devilishly fast up to 250 km/h (155 mph), pretty much hanging with the 599, CGT and the SLR. It really gets slower afterwards, I suspect due to gearing.

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

These cars are fast but that is not the whole story... they handle superbly too.

Yup - 6th gear in Corvettes have you loping at barely 1000 rpm at highway cruising speeds. GM figured the car is mainly driven on US roads and didn't need an autobahn Porsche chasing gear ratio in 6th , offering good fuel consumption of 25+ MPG for long distance journeys instead .

Re: Z06 stock Impressive numbers

It's pretty easy to take major time off the 0-300km/h time in the Z06s. I took 12 seconds off of my cars time pretty easily. So 5th gear is pretty fast now but it dies in 6th still.
