    997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Would you still buy a GT-R over a 997 TT, even if paying for the 997 TT was just as easy, and why?

Actually, I would be surprised if somebody would take the GTR over the 997TT. These two cars are of different classes... Although, the GTR might be as quick as the 997TT

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

a nissan will never be a porsche... the car is beautiful... but the rear its horrible.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Its a hard one because the 4 seaters are getting quicker and quicker..Its all down to if someone ask you if you drive a super sports car and then you dont feel inferior by saying yes I do its a NISSAN ,, GTR , its that ego thing..However (and fwiw) it would not bother me because I have a family to cart about....

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

price set aside, i somehow feel the GT-R would be more engaging, especially when thinking of the double-clutch gear box versus the tiptronic of the 997 TT... i think the 997 TT needs a PDK desperatly, and the option of new 20 inch rims...

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

I think the 997TT is king, but the GTR would be a great car to get to know how I feel about a PDK type transmission. The GTR is also a stealthy car. You could have it as daily driver and not worry about allot of things that could concern someone driving a Porsche.

This is a tuner car, if the news about untunability are true it will be a failure.
btw, it is slightly slower and significantly heavier than a stock TT, not to mention uglier.

Any idea about what makes it untunable?

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

every day i pass with my Turbo, the more i love it/she ! long life to the KING!

p.s.Yesterday evening i parked the car near an old construction in front of a shop where i must go to buy some stuff..(strange thing, becouse usually when i take the Turbo out of the box i never turn off it,i sit on the car when i go out of the box,i drive, drive, drive, drive and raise miself up when i park the car in the box again at evening.. )but yesterday was different...,as said before i parked the car,and i leave the parking lights on,the sky was dark but not at all ....i went in to the shop and coming out after a few time after talking a few with a friend,i take up the look from the floor and.. UAUUUU
i stop walking and i think, that is my car,i can't believe! the Turbo looks stunning!looks so beautiful....unfortunately i had no camera with me

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

I would take the 997TT, without doubting.....Although I do like the GTR looks and specially its performace, but by no means I would choose the GTR over a 997TT, and even less vs a 997GT3

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

i am also very surprised by the nissan's weight. why on eart 1760 kg ?

and stealthy it is certainly not....it's ricy !!

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Tough question to answer, but I picked the GT-R.

It all depends on what other cars you already have in your garage. Since I already have 2 Porsches and don't want to get rid of them, and I have been waiting for a long time for the GT-R to arrive in North America, the GT-R is the logical choice for me.

But if I'm only allowed to have one car, then 997TT all the way as it is still the king.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

i would never buy any car at any price that i thought was ugly and in this case imho butt ugly

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

For me the answer is obvious: I'd buy the 997 TT, mainly because it's not possible to buy the Nissan right now. I might consider the Nissan after it had been available for a few months and I'd had a chance to determine whether all the pre release hype was justified. But by then (say early 2009) there may be better cars on the way. You have to make your decision based on what is available when you put your money down, therefore questions about the Nissan are kind of irrelevant IMHO. Ask me again when I've had a test drive.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

WOW 10% on here should lose their membership and join NISSANWILLALWAYSBENISSAN.COM bahaha, still though guys common 10% of you would get the over a 997TT IF YOU HAD THE MONEY TO SPEND.... im confused..

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

If money was an issue, I'd pick up a Z06.

If money is no big deal, I'd go with a 997TT.

Couple of things that bother on this new GT-R:-

    - Discontinued I6 and went with a V6 engine
    - Rear wing is ugly
    - Front bumper/headlight looks too cheap(XXL version of 350Z)
    - No 6-Spd Manual
    - Too fat(what happened to the old days ? 1430kg ? 1530kg ?)
    - IMO it's Overpriced, because it's a Nissan and it will have issues(I hope the gearbox isn't the first thing that will give up)

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

I'd only get the GT-R as a second car. I wouldn't want to give up the 997TT.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Now way in hell I would ever choose a Nissan over a Porsche Turbo.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

You've got to be kidding me, 997 Turbo at same cost as GT-R and we are being asked to choose? This is Rennteam, not an asylum. I'd pick the Turbo even at a premium. Here are two main reasons:

1.The weight, 3836 lbs! For a sports car, this is a very very VERY fat car.
    2. It's unattractive, borderline hideous, pervasively so, INSIDE AND OUT.

Sorry for the cross post, but it bears repeating here:

As mentioned, you might want to look at **THE WEIGHT** before you jump in. At least, the torque number vs. weight indicates that it will lack the explosiveness of the 997 Turbo wrt acceleration and will not feel nearly as RESPONSIVE in daily driving. (Imagine driving the 997 Turbo with 2-3 ADDITIONAL passengers in the car.) I may be the lone voice here but time will prove me right: This is a great car in many aspects but it has an insurmountable flaw, its weight. On purely price/performance standpoint, the Corvette Z06 will kill it, and the Corvette doesn't look nearly as unattractive.

    Nissan: 480 hp @ 6,800 rpm. 430 lb-ft torque @ 3,200 - 5,200 rpm. 3836 lbs.
    Porsche: 480 hp @ 6,000 rpm. 460 lb-ft torque @ 2,100 (truthfully, 3000 in real life) - 4000 rpm, 505 overboost. 3494 lbs, 3454 mine

Lastly, do you really want to be seen in a car with a face like this?

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

    Versus this?

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

i voted GT-R . unless 997TT come out with PDK .... DSG is KING .... u will love it after u drove

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Judging from the response, Porsche should raise the price of the 997TT, reduce its hp forcing buyers to pay more if they want more hp and double the price of options. Porschephiles will still buy one.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Look around: Tell me of another Supercar Daily Driver that is DECENT to look at and does the Ring in 7 minutes 52 seconds? Porsche could do what they do (profit) because they are unique. Usually the only car the could beat a Porsche, all things considered, is another Porsche. For example, the only other car that a lot of Turbo owners look at is the GT3, and vice versa. Sure PAG could do better, and we as customers should always demand more, but they are doing a damn good job right now and deserve whatever comes their way IMHO.

Nissan had a chance here and they blew it because of the ugliness and the weight.

    BTW, Hyundai Tiburon.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Nissan GTR. I actually think the Tiburon is a more agreeable car. Really, the more I look at it, the more the ugliness unbearable. It's probably a great driving car, a fat/heavy great driving car, but they will have to actually **PAY ME** to be seen in it.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

I would even take the 997s over the nissan

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

The Nissan is a passionless car for me!

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

simply because thats a Nissan, but this is Porsche i chose porsche of course

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Man, the 997 is THE CAR, all the others are just attempting, more or less successful, to take that crown. Now the Nissan apart from its awful looking back and terrible dashboard , it is not bad, but will you like to be seen as the mad drifter hooligan that may have the best, loudest, last in fashion, that is fashionable just for three days, flashy tattoo on the sides of the car? That each day after buying the car will arrive with a bigger rear spoiler an even bigger impossible to drive over an ant front spoiler that the size of the exhaust it is bigger than the diameter of a train tunnel and the noise it is much louder than the speed that the car actually does.

Yes it works like saying that you get performances equal (even if I doubt a little about how equal they are) to those of the 997 turbo but you are still missing the substance, and that is what it is all about in my opinion!!!

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

GT-R : Another one in the series of Japanese wannabes. The Supras the ZXs the RXs the NSXs the S2000s etc etc. have all come and gone but the Porsche is a Porsche. The Japanese selling point has always been value for money but having said that, a good Porsche like a GT3 or even Turbo will not break the bank.

Re: 997 TT vs. Nissan GT-R

Honestly I think that this question is posted on the wrong thread/board.

90% of people here would take a standard Cayenne over the Nissan GT-R.
