Thanks Ron, always nice to see new Boxster news. Not my cup of tea either, but it is interesting the article states

Would the PSE really be what results in the 8 hp increase? If it is it has me thinking, the MY09 facelift with DFI and PSE might be around 320 hp and would be a heck of a lot of fun.

. I guess the Orange ones sold out too quickly they decided to bring on another special edition for the ones didn't get a chance to waste their money on the RS Orange editions .Whatever has become of Porsche ?

Color combination is classic, belonging to a bygone era, but tastes change with time. The red top with GT silver should be quite unique. Not sure why folks get so worked up about Porsche introducing these special editions. They did the same thing with the 911 in the 1980s. If the option package happens to suit your tastes it's a good deal compared to compiling the options on your own. If it's not your taste, well, so what? After all, Porsche isn't defrauding the public with these cars.

The past special editions on the 911 series had at least chronological background, e.g. the 30th or 40th anniv. editions.
Since the Millenium edition those outputs promote more or less aesthetical unique features. It is at least good to see that they did not limit this edition to a variation of colour or the common options you could find on other cars of that modelrange but installed some unseen items (as the exhaust system or painted gaugecluster). I do believe, that, if made in the right way, those special editions could become a common sight and help a couple of (tastelessly) customers to fulfill their dreams of a somewhat personalized, low-volume edition. If Porsche cars themselves are not any uncommon nowadays, why not make those cars themselves look customized?

Well i was just as scathing as the rest of you when i saw the pictures of another special edition. But i'm starting to look at it this way..
My car, with similar spec cost Pounds47k new just over 2 years ago, so probably nudging Pounds48k if bought now.
For Pounds3k less the RS60 would get me..

sports exhaust
the bigger 3.4 engine
Now none of these are going to set my world alight, but they do represent an improvement in value for money. If i was buying now then i'd probably go for the limited edition, GTS with red roof. However, i'm not thinking of buying now, and it isn't enough to even tempt me knoign the facelift and DFI are a year away.

What is the reason for the power increase? According to the article it is only the modified sports exhaust. So... is this not the normal PSE offered for the 987 or is this the normal PSE with X51 headers? Or.. does all 987 with PSE actually have 303hp

yeah they're like package deals, easier for porsche to sell internally. some combinations of options are just more popular and i think porsche is trying to adress those and some more to sell more right off the line and not having to deal with special built orders.. thats really the only reason i can see why they would come out with all these "edition" packages.. cause really they are just the same car with a package of options already for cheaper than if you were to order that precise vehicle at porsche!
