    Sold my Baby!

I sold my 05 Carrera S to Car Max in White Marsh Md. about a week ago for 50 gees. That was 2500 more than anyone else offered. After 38,600 miles in three years I'd had enough fun. I paid 85,000 plus 7200 financing minus 50 divided by 3 equals 14066.66 a year or 1.09 a mile. Ouch! Cmax sold it a few days later for 54,600. Have fun with your toys boys.I'll stop by from time to time. Arriva D.

    so what next ?

    Re: Sold my Baby!

    Gutted for you...

It's nice to see you put miles on it. I know, get another....feed the hunger.

    Re: Sold my Baby!

Bummer. Thanks for the calculations. I think buying a new 997S cost me about the same over 2+ years.(although not as many miles) It's not cheap

    Re: Sold my Baby!

Hope you do not miss too much. Since beginning of my pcar ownership I was 6 months without any and it was a real suffering...

    Re: Sold my Baby!

LOL. us$1+ per mile! Yeah that's about right. Funny.

Anyway, regarding Pcars "better to have owned and sold rather than never to have owned at all."

    Re: Sold my Baby!

So it cost you $1.09 a mile. Big deal. Maybe you should have bought a Toyota? Think about when you can own another Porsche. I think you will.

    Re: Sold my Baby!

    $1 a mile isn't bad at all

Imagine if you could pay as you go.

    Re: Sold my Baby!

I used to do calculations when I owned a Honda CRX. I wanted to prove what a great deal I was getting - and a great deal it was! As I moved into finer cars, I just blew off worrying about the money. I paid $80k (+/-). I am thinking I just pissed that money away. No other way to look at it. I don't know how long I am keeping the car. When I sell (hopefully never), I will get what I can get. Porsche is just about pissing money away. No one here should be surprised at the cost of ownership.

Am I going to feel good if I can get my cost to $0.80/mi or am I going to feel bad if it was $1.50?

There are obvious ways to minimize your cost. Buy a 4 yr old Boxster! And yeah, it wouldn't be really bad to own a Boxster. But I wanted a 911. And I could have saved money buying a 996 or a used 997. But, I wanted a new one - I want to maybe keep my car a very long time. I wanted to break my car in - the way I thought it should be broken in. I read some of the stories here about engine failures and such. I got to think that some of y'all are driving your cars way to hard - which could be contributing to some of these failures. I mean no offense, but I really would not like to own some of the cars here after the way that some describe their daily use.

My cost $80k. All down the drain!

    Re: Sold my Baby!

    Coffee,
I think you are being way too negative. This is not about rational numbers or cost per mile. It's about your expectations from a car. If you want a Ford then buy a Ford. I can not quantify or even justify the cost of my 2007 997S. But, I know how it makes me feel when I go into sport mode. It makes me feel like it is giving me what I want from a car. Hopefully, my next pcar will be a GT3. Only because I want to feel what it is like to drive the best that engineering has to offer. You don't have to tell me about the harsh ride. Or the ride height. I know all that. To me it is a privilege to own a Porsche. It is all too easy to settle for less in a car. Personally, I refuse to settle for less anymore. And, I am willing to pay to make my dream come true. If you think that you can settle for less, then best of luck to you. Just don't complain when it lets you down. I think you know what I mean.

It sure took you a while to answer the post, Coffee hasn't written since you last post so why are you replying him in adifferent way than your last one.

Dont tell me about it! since i sold my 996TT this summer I'm on cold tukey!
I tried to play it cool first, thinking it will fade away like kind a sour love story where time heals all, but heck! no! it just doesnt happen!!
looking at all possible alternatives all the time, but it's just inconclusive - terrible! anyway, I hope I resist til early next year and then I might pill the trigger!!

    Re: Sold my Baby!

I'm looking at that new Tundra 5.7 litre 381 HP 401 lb/ ft torque monster. Its peppy. Oh and a new Harley too. I did drive a new Boxter base model this past summer and I was impressed. I think a nice 05 or 06 with a few miles would work just fine. I did enjoy making memories these past 3 years. I'm just saying I could have gone to an I-Max movie with seat interaction and smell-a-vision for the same effect! lol

    Re: Sold my Baby!

If I approached my 997S based on the depreciation costs, I would never have bought it in the first place. These toys are bought to stir the soul and excite passion every time we find an empty road to play on. No amount of money saved can replace that pleasure IMHO.

    Re: Sold my Baby!

I think that's cheap. I reckon I pay 10k + UK pounds per year or more for my 997 - it's fun and I love the car, but I do sometimes wonder whether it's worth it!

    SoS.

    Re: Sold my Baby!

I don't like to think of the money I've spent on cars over the last 10 years. When I jump into the 997S and find a nice clear road I just turn off the stereo and listen to the engine and feel the speed. There's nothing like it. Any car can get you from A to B but that's not what a Porsche is all about. That feeling, to me, justifies the expense.

    Re: Sold my Baby!

I will buy a used Porsche when the time is right. It will be no older than a 2005. I'll let someone else take that initial hit. I have learned the hard way.
