Look, I don't know what to say to you. A short time ago you started a thread that you were shocked at the thousands of fine scratches on your car. I tried in the past to give you recommendations that I honestly think will help you but you seem pretty set in your ways. Good luck.

You're very kind, but don't worry about me. I consider what you're saying and no doubt will be running over this line of reasoning next time I spend some time washing/waxing/wiping my car; Thank you for your thoughts. Anyway, I don't worry toooooo much, my cars always look great to me (and everybody I know who sees them), but if in concours exhibition they might not do so well.

I STILL do not understand "THE" logic for speed shine, and other mfgrs equivalents.

Leave your absolutely clean car out in the driveway for an _hour_ in springtime and it will be coated with tree _sap_ and pollen.

Note: the "sap" is water soluble, not the sticky, gooey stuff, but it comes from the trees though and sticks to the car in _tiny_ little droplets; like a mist.

Do a california dusting and then run your hand over the paint. It's _rough_ from the tree sap! What do you do? Speedshine over it? Or do you wipe it off with a damp terry towel?

I'll have to learn more about the "special lubricant" in Speed Shine-like products which prevent scratching paint.

Maybe I'll get a gallon size of Speed Shine and dampen my dozen terry towels with it before I "lift" the dirt off while turning frequently (100s of times).

Would be fun (but i'll never do it) to get two perfect sheets of plexiglass and see what it takes to scratch them (Speed Shine vs. "lift"ing damp towels).

    Re: Wash without drying

Here's the Speed Shine blurb from "concours-aware" Griot's Garage.

From what's been said it seems wrong to advise people to _wipe_ their car down between washes even _with_ this stuff. You'd think the paint would get scratched!

Since Griot's doesn't explicitly advise it, I doubt people use a dozen Speed-Shine-soaked cloths and turn the cloths extremely frequently. BTW: again: great idea.

Wiping a "dirty" (i.e. not-just-washed) car with this product seems okay with them. Those "special lubricants" must be verrrry special. (hopefully not silicone )

    Re: Wash without drying

MMD, I have to concur with Gregg on this one. I don't think it's a good idea to use terry cloths with speed shine _ALL_ over the car. It's only good for very light cleaning as Gregg pointed out. If there's lots of dirt, sap, etc. I'd suggest that you just give your car a thorough washing to get them all off.

Gregg, we're sick folks. I don't even want to show you guys my entire cleaning supplies. I saw the reception that gradyex got when he did that so....

Silver!!! LoL!! That's the wrong vac. That unit is strictly a vacuum not a blower.

Don't know why I didn't see it yesterday but here it is on Griots site. "90514 Wall Mounted Four-Peak Horsepower Vacuum"
    http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?L1=L1_3000&L2=L2_3060&SKU=90514

Notice the hose holder? That's the one I got, it works great:
    http://www.griotsgarage.com/catalog.jsp?SKUupsell=81304

I would call Griots & tell them that autogeek has it for $299 and see if they'll match the price because Griots has it for $349.00.

    autogeek's jumbo Vac N Blo:

Thanks Gregg, They look similar, ha? Hey I just orderd everything from AutoGeek. This thread cost me a $1000 but worth every penny. OH HOW FUN.

Nah, you guys are not sick, your great. Everybody here's thinking about what's going on when cleaning their cars. I'm currently (today ) trying to get to the bottom of the Speed Shine thing and I thank you guys for your input.

Like the only way to touch your paint with minimal scratching is with a large flow of water and some foam to get that grit off the paint the instant it gets touched by anything (water, soap, mitts etc). Agree 100%.

Sometimes my car looks a little dull (it lost that "just waxed" look) and I'm trying to freshen it w/o a major car washing project. Geez..., There's no way to do that apparently.

    Anyway..., it's all fun though.

Was serious about the gallon of speed shine. Or to find out that their "special lubricant" is.

Wow, Gregg, thanks for taking the time to give such detailed responses. You are attentive to details and do your research very carefully so the answers are valuable. Above all, you're "nuts" and I appreciate it.

Ah! Found where to get one. These work a little better on the wheels of a car w/ steel brakes that tend to have much dirtier wheels.

    http://www.autogeek.net/tiwhbr.html

On my F430 I only need to use the Boars hair wheel brush but if my Porsche wheels are dirty the type of brush above is more effective. If you're only going to get 1 wheel brush then I'd recommend this one instead of the boars hair. In comparsion to using towels to clean wheels this is soooooo much better, especially when cleaning the inside of wheels. As long as you don't have the 997 Sport Design wheels which makes getting inside impossible w/ a brush like this.

W/ steel brakes I also use one of these little guys to get into the tight areas:

    That's a great price.

I just noticed autogeek was running a free shipping deal so I called & they removed shipping charges from my order, bet they'll do the same for you. Also they are now running a 20% off sale good only through today. (it exludes vacuums) Use code SANTA20
